dating apps are absolute cancer because women hold all the cards and judge you based off photo quality and their standard for looks are ASTRONOMICALLY higher than they would be in real life. Picking up in person is hard because women are being told by the media that a man talking to them in public is offensive and harassment. Alot of them actually buy into this bullshit. So yea, a large portion of men have just given up even trying because the conditions are so bad

  • @mailleweaver

That's often because any man they're nice to assumes that she's coming on to them and that switches them into crazy mode. Women generally have to default to ice queen to avoid being dogpiled by desperate men. I used to work with a guy who admitted that he's so desperate that if he gets so much as a "like" on a facebook photo, he can't help but send a dick pic. Hearing that disgusted me, and I'm a very lonely man, myself. That's why women can't be nice most of the time. Even a few of those guys is enough to ruin everything for the rest of us (both men and women), and there are far more than a few. Being nice to men is dangerous if you're not also a man.

As a man in a relationship at the time, even I had to double take and be like... is she into me or something. Nope, just really smiley. One of the awkward dudes though took it as a sign that she was interested. He wouldn't leave her alone and even when she said no, he saw it as her playing hard to get. It got really bad like management was involved. The worst bit was the manager who got involved saw both of them as the problem. Was really unfair when she was just friendly to everyone.

The only good pick up lines are tailored specifically to a situation with a person you already have acquaintance with and you have a pre-established mutual flirtatious vibe with each other. For example, my now girlfriend but at the time coworker was borrowing my leather jacket because she was cold when we went on Smoke breaks together. I casually told her, “if you keep wearing that jacket it’s gonna become a boyfriend jacket and I’m gonna have to take you on a date.” That actually worked, and we went on a date that very night.

I almost never approached women in the dating world, I was comfortable in my little bubble and responded accordingly when a woman entered that space to chat or sometimes blatantly flirt. The times I did approach women, I did so over social media, because I’m a writer and feel much more confident and at ease when there’s a screen between me and the potential love interest. Almost all the times I approached a woman that way, it worked, but it would sometimes fall apart when we met in person. But I have a hard time relating to guys who say that it’s so hard to pick up women because my experience was that, even as a shy, socially withdrawn guy, I often found success in dating and even had women approach me often enough that I could be somewhat selective and not simply be easy. I think the socialized norms that guys try to follow shoot them in their own foot more than helping them, and those rules only work well for the more traditionally masculine and assertive men. Instead of trying to be one of them, as the incels opt to do, try coming up with a strategy that plays to your own abilities. I was good at understanding others and empathizing, so I leaned heavily on those talents to establish an emotional connection with women. There’s more than one way to a person’s heart.

I started talking to her just asking how life's going, the usual stuff people ask, and afterwards I went back to my group and every one of my kids started saying I had "W Rizz." I had no idea what they were talking about. I looked it up later and was confused because all of the examples I found of "Rizz" was shitty pick up lines and bravado. Don't mean to burst your bubble, but that could easily mean as "You are so un-threatening and not dominant that the very notion of you thinking you're 'intimidating' is so absurd, that you are the opposite of that. This is also reinforced by the fact that you asked that question in the first place, instead of not caring whether you are/are not intimidating and just doing your thing, which all girls find attractive". That could have been a backhanded "compliment".

The last compliments I received were from 2013-2016 and go as follows: A friend introduced me to some of his friends I didn’t know and the girl said I was cute. One girl actually asked to hug me, which of course I said yes to. I thought it was going to be a quick hug and tried to pull away after a few seconds. She holds on and actually says, “I’m not done yet” before eventually letting go. One girl said I smelled good and wanted to know what cologne I used, which was funny because I wasn’t wearing any. One said i had nice chest muscles. Another pointed out that I definitely wasn’t scrawny. This one girl I thought was WAY out of my league said I was cute and called me “prom date” ever time she saw me. That still blows my mind. And lastly, one booped me on the nose and said I was cute. Seven compliments. One to carry me for every year I’ve been out of high school. The reason men are so easy is because we’re expected to do all the chasing . Which, as society has degraded, has only gotten worse (I’d argue it’s dumb from the get go). Way too many women think give and take means “You give me everything I want and I take it all.” I don’t think many will take the advice, but I gotta start telling women about the massive leg up they’ll gain over 99% of other women by simply just… trying. It’s not that the women were being “masculine”. They were just putting in effort to actually make a connection

Hate it. Notice how that one guy that gives the same treatment to one of the women's "rizz" and (pretty appropriately) shuts down her immediate sexual advance, not even Shoe catches it and just calls him autistic. We *really do* need to need to match up with their "hard to get" playbook. This is hurts to watch, hurts deep roots in my mind. A big part of our system IS attacking the strength and mental fortitude of our men. Feels like a lost cause, it's no wonder many men end up taking it upon themselves to take a hard turn to traditionalist values..

You hit the nail on the head. Men don't receive compliments nor have women approach, so when they do either of those things to the average guy, it might literally be the first time it has happened to him and leaves a big impression. It's not game; just an exposure to how little affection, acknowledgement and basic human decency men receive, even from each other. (The worst girl rated still got support and encouragement from another girl; the boys basically ignored each other.)

See that’s just a good joke, that’s funny, and being funny works. The reason pickup lines don’t work is that it’s almost impossible to plan humor as opposed to reacting to things organically. Imagine someone who’s only sense of humor is reciting knock-knock jokes. If the first thing you say to someone is a pickup line, the only context you have to work with is “I think you’re hot”, which will always come off as not personal.
