Malaska Golf // Is The L to L Drill Contrary to Delofting the Club Face

Спорт

The L to L drill is one of the foundational drills I like to teach to help students get a feel for the pivots or the lever system in your golf swing. So, the question comes up, "is this drill contrary to the idea of compressing the ball or delofting the club face at impact?"
The simple answer is no... not if you're doing it correctly.
Don't just play golf. Understand it.

Mike I've watched A TON of golf videos from various instructors and have experimented with so many different styles. Your instruction has helped me more than anyone by miles. I bought your online class and have practiced your drills. I have gone from a 12 handicap to a 6 in a matter of just a few months. Thank you so much!

This works and really does help. I’m fortunate to have a simulator at home and trying this I’m seeing my 7i go the same 160 with this half swing as my good full swings. Feels effortless. Haven’t been playing much but I will tomorrow and will give it a go just hitting my irons this way.

Minus 2 today where I'm at. People growing up in perfect climates have such an advantage in becoming a better golfer than others with year round golf.

Isn't that the truth! We won't be playing until April or later unless we travel south and that, if course, is only for a brief period. Year round sounds like heaven!

Mike, great video. Quick question. Would it help or hinder the reinforcement of the L to L by using a weighted club? I'm thinking it would help with building forearm strength but maybe it would cause other issues in the development of muscle memory through the drill.

Hey Mike😊. The l to l taught me a lot but if I can give you some feedback on my issues... I had trouble relaxing as I swung the club and I focused, too much I think, on impact. Watching this video makes me think I should work on the end of the l to l the way Joe showed you?. That sound like a plan?

In the L to L and moving as you demo, I find it hard to feel I am getting the right arm lined up with the club, which you say in one for most important things to do.

Mike - this only works if you play a side on or weaker right hand grip. This is what I use.

So as long as hips and shoulders open at impact hands should be forward. So would closed or square hips at impact cause flip.

Forget the hips and shoulders . If you do what mike has shown in the video the hips and shoulders work automatically .

Alright. I have a question. This is something that I have noticed. Just went over go golfswinghd to make sure I was remembering it correctly. Anyhow, looking at multiple pro swings, both male and female what I noticed it that most, not all but most have the L in the backswing where you show. Others get there just later. On the other hand, not one had the L on the through swing. The closest I saw was one with Lidia Ko on a partial swing. This to me seems to be a big discrepancy and I would like to understand it.

My understanding is that as you increase your swing speed, the club’s momentum straightens your arms after impact more and more which takes away from the L. But, Mike’s L to L drill is more for practicing at slower speeds where you are just trying to learn to feel the club’s momentum. Once you can do a slow L to L swing you can start swinging faster and faster until the follow through L goes away. The key though is that in both cases, you aren’t holding angles and positions. You’re using the club’s momentum and proper sequencing to create speed, and you let the club overtake the hands at some point after impact. That’s one way to think of a release.

Bladnaster Naster glad to help! Mike’s ideas have helped me really calm my swing down. I used to way overuse my back muscles to create speed, which was causing intense back pain under left shoulder blade. Now I swing much more freely and my power has improved. Mike’s one of the best for sure

@bladnaster also to add to what Jordan said, it depends on what shot you want to hit, a high fade, you would deliberately hold off the L release. also different teachings come and go, in and out of style. Luke Donald got to #1 in the world with what is an old fashioned release, then he changed to try to hit it further and hasn't been seen since. My advice : pick a teacher you like and if their teaching makes sense and feels ok to your physiology, stick with them and don't get caught up in second guessing yourself (and them)

Mike, people who flip or scoop are activating forearm muscles too much or incorrectly aren't they? Their intent is wrong.
