MAKS 2019 ✈️ Legendary Su-47 in Public Display for the 1st Time! - HD 50fps
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
It has finally come to us... the one and only... the LEGEND!!
The Sukhoi Su-47, one of the most unique aircrafts ever built and a beautiful piece of aviation history has finally been unveiled to the public eye at MAKS 2019!
It's taken 12 or 14 years after its last public appearance at an airshow. Back then, the jet would only make flight displays but would not be demonstrated in static exposition. Now, for the first time in history, we have been able to watch her from up close!! :)
(On the downside, we didn't get to see her fly though...)
I had been hoping for this well since the first time I travelled to Russia back in 2013 for the MAKS airshow, as this plane has inspired me greatly, both aesthetically and conceptually.
The Sukhoi Su-47 Berkut (Сухой Су-47 Беркут, lit. 'Golden Eagle', NATO reporting name Firkin), also designated S-32 and S-37 (not to be confused with the Su-37 delta canard design) was an experimental supersonic fighter jet developed by the Sukhoi Aviation Corporation. A distinguishing feature of the aircraft was its forward-swept wing that gives it excellent agility and maneuverability. Serial production of the type never materialized but the sole aircraft produced served as a technology demonstrator prototype for a number of advanced technologies later used in the 4.5 and 5th gen. fighters such as the Su-35S and Su-57. The Su-47 also was originally built as Russia's principal testbed for composite materials and sophisticated fly-by-wire control systems.
TsAGI has long been aware of the advantages of forward-swept wings, with research including the development of the Tsibin LL and study of the captured Junkers Ju 287 in the 1940s. At high angles of attack, the wing tips remain unstalled allowing the aircraft to retain aileron control. A downside of such a design is that it geometrically produces wing twist as it bends under load, resulting in greater stress on the wings than for a similar straight or aft-swept wing. This requires the wing to be designed to twist as it bends -opposite to the geometric twisting.
The project was launched in 1983 on order from the Soviet Air Force but funding was frozen when the USSR dissolved and development continued only through direct funding by Sukhoi. Like its US counterpart, the Grumman X-29, the Su-47 was primarily a technology demonstrator for future Russian fighters.
The Su-47 is of similar dimensions to previous large Sukhoi fighters, such as the Su-35. To reduce development costs, the Su-47 borrowed the forward fuselage, vertical tails, and landing gear from the Su-27 family. Nonetheless, the aircraft includes an internal weapons bay and space set aside for an advanced radar.
Though similar in overall concept to the Grumman X-29 research aircraft of the 1980s, the Su-47 is larger and far closer to an actual combat aircraft than its US counterpart.
Like its immediate predecessor, the Su-37, the Su-47 is of triple-tandem layout, with canards ahead of wings and tailplanes on the aft. The Su-47 has two tailbooms of unequal length outboard of the exhaust nozzles. The shorter boom, on the left-hand side, houses rear-facing radar, while the longer boom houses a brake parachute.
The Su-47 has extremely high agility at subsonic speeds, enabling the aircraft to alter its angle of attack and its flight path very quickly while retaining maneuverability in supersonic flight even without the need for thrust vectoring nozzles.

23 dosen't have any demo at al, probably it's les agile but having highest cruising speed as a fighter which it's important as stealthy to attack first big radars on ground, in team with 22 which would take fighters. Su 47 should be in team with bombers like in old times having subsonic capabilities it's some kind of defense or for slow war front at border pushing back offender even if is having radars at border.

@raiden z my point is that both the Russians and the Americans copied the Germans
@josephl3602

Yes.. The Germans built the first forward swept plane, but it was a goofy looking bomber, was made from salvaged parts of other planes and only had a couple of test flights before being destroyed by the Germans in an attempt to keep it from falling into enemy hands. The Russians and the US made much better attempts. The Su-47 and the X-29 were some serious pieces of modern hardware. Too bad they didn't make it to combat.
