✅MAKKASAN | 22 Minutes From BANGKOK AIRPORT | Must Love Trains! | Renting Condos | Area Living Guide

Ойын-сауық

Makkasan is only 22 Minutes from the airport by train. It's a well connected part of Downtown Bangkok close to Sukhumvit and Ratchada. It's Vibrant, hectic, colourful and charming but definitely not Hipster. Many quality condos are in this area and it's a great choice for those who want to be away from the commercial parts of Bangkok but want an easy connection to Suvarnabhumi Airport.

When I'm in Bangkok, I always live in this area since 2019. As you described u can get easily to the big spots like asok, rama 9 and also to centralworld via khlong boat. Using a Taxi or car isn't that funny because u will stuck at the rush hours everytime. So I always take a short walk to the mrt Phetchaburi or the khlong boat station at nana nuea. Great video Pat. I like the drone shot alot. In one of my next videos I will show a little more in depth about my area. There is a hidden food market and also some other interesting things to see

I arrived in Bangkok on a saturday morning a month ago, and decided to take the train rather than taxi to my hotel around Lumphini park. Being clueless about the PT I asked for a ticket to Chit Lom figuring that was the closest station. What I didn't realise was on a different line and the person said something I didn't catch. Jumping on the train, after a couple stops I realised I wasn't going were I wanted so I jumped out at Makkasan, and then used google maps to figure out how to walk to the hotel. It took me thru that overgrown area you show, and then literally stepping over the train line, and then along Kamphaeng Phet 7 road. This was quite the introduction to BKK for a small town westerner.

Most of the time I’ll catch the Bangkok Airport Rail link from the Phaya Thai station when I’m in Bangkok because I don’t want to carry luggage in a crowded train. This really seems like a great area that many would be sleeping on. To give my two cents worth on no cats in this kind of video. I and I'm sure many of your viewers consider the soi cat population a key selection criteria on areas we would consider moving to and it's livability. Perhaps consider adding a rating on the population of soi cats on the areas you review? A scale upto 5 kittens could work well. I personally couldn't live anywhere less than 4 out of 5 kittens. 🐈🐈🐈🐈 PS Bravo on not letting the passing train "derail" your piece to camera. You are the consummate professional.

I was first time in Bangkok in 2007. And had found a Hotel from a Lonely Planet guide were they had listed price-worthy hotels. And the hotel was The Manhattan on soi 15. The hotel was nice, but way over my budget so it was only 1 night. The next day i was having a coffey somewere on sukhumwit. And all of a sudden came the guy that had been sitting in the chair next to mine on the plane from Stockholm the previous day, walking by. He recognized me, and asked if he could join me? Long story short. He was living in a hotel that cost half of what i was paying for The Manhattan. So i decided to give it a try. And that hotel was the Federal Hotel on soi 11. I remember my room had a stench of cigarrettes so hard, that i thought it made my clothes smell too.😆But it was worth it cheap as it was. And when i see your videos it seems like all those cheap old hotels are getting demolished, to make way for yet another mall. So what you are doing is filming Bangkoks progress (or decline depending how you look at it?) in real time. Im rambling! Any way, love your work. Cheers!

Absolutely loved this video! Makkasan has always been my stopover whenever I visit BKK. The FX Metrolink Hotel has very reasonable rates, however you will hear the SRT Train when its passes by, and construction work on the Mormon cathedral (hopefully completed soon!). The pork noodle street stall at its Petchaburi Road entrance is also cheap and good! The best part: one can get to any part of BKK from here without having to go on the road: MRT, ARL, khlong boat all available! Thanks again for this timely reminder!

Its local, not at all touristy and the Sirat Highway is near to my hotel. I rent and drive but will use the public transport depending on the traffic condition. I had stopped using the Khlong San Saeb river/canal taxis a few years back. Its the journey from Mahad Thai pier until Pratunam. Just hop on bus number 40, get down at Phra Kanong BTS station if you have the time to travel through Pridi Banomyong before the intersection. The Airport Link is still reliable.

  • @sfalpha

Too few people use it. Actually it failed because Airport Rail Link Airport Express is emerge in early stage of metro network, that time only 2 BTS and 1 MRT Lines are in operation and covering only small part of Bangkok. Only a few people can travel to Station without taking taxis, it's better to take taxi and direct to Airport. Moreover, Airlines need to pay Fees to use the City Terminal and Airlines don't want to pay it. Other reason is stupidity of the Operator on how to operate and marketing such thing. Actually just let passenger pay the Check-in Fees or provide Luggage Transport Services for a fee is enough to get people to use it. However, it's being revive after being incorporated in to the part of Eastern HSR Project Linking 3 Airports. It will comes back one day (may be around 2026). And this time passenger need to pay for City Check-in Fees i guess.
