Thanks for taking on a topic that demystifies vlogging. My hubby & I have had to add additional power ports in the tow vehicle to keep up with our gear charging needs! Love that you share.

That was really good info, it’s great to see what others use and just goes to show you don’t need to break the bank to film good quality videos. Thanks for answering my question regarding music platforms I have also been caught using free no copy right music and been copyrighted, not a strike but need to be careful using those sites. I do not use a computer for editing but eventually found your email address using my iPad thanks for that. Great job once again. Cheers!

Thanks for sharing your experiences in accessorising the equipment you "need" for filming your journeys. I guess I'm going to visit my big box camera store to get a few ideas. Recently I watched a farmer using a suction mount go-pro camera mounted on his tractor as he was pushing sticks into a fire. With the heat, the suction let go, causing the camera to fall onto ground near the fire. When he realised the camera wasn't on the tractor, he found it before it was pushed into the fire. He now uses a magnetic mount, as do a lot of other people uploading video. I like the shoe lace safety strap. A lanyard should work just as well. Thanks again, I'll certainly be trying the go-pro mount attachment for my phone. I'd like to know how you save video to the external hard drive, either direct from the camera or phone, or computer? It's been a long time since I've attempted editing video, so my guess is that there's plenty programs available online that will work well. Thanks Julie and Ken for all the info, I'll have to watch this one a few more times before I visit my camera store etc. Cheers.. Bazz.

Thanks Bazz, we download the video's from camera to computer first, we do this almost daily when filming a lot, so we can group name them and file them into folders and sub-folders while fresh in my memory. This makes it way easier to retrieve later for editing. As you can see, dont need a lot of equipment. Goodluck, give it a go. Ken and Julie

I have used various software packages over the years, including Premiere Pro, which is subscroition based. My biggest bugbear in 19 years of filming was the engine, road and A/C noise in the cabin of the car. In the last couple of years, I was using Da Vinci Resolve Free version software until they released their Voice Isolation Tool in their Studio (Paid) version. It was a no brainer, I paid the $500 and the result is amazing. The tool is AI driven, learns your voice, and you can dial out some or as much of the background noise as you want... I then found I had so many more tools at my disposal, that my production has improved enormously. And the beauty of the software is, that it is a once only payment, and all updates are free. You do need a bit of grunt to drive it though. It also cuts through wind noise and reverb. The dead cat is the answer on camera to reduce the wind noise. I use a wireless lavalier mic into the camera which does the goods. Stabilisation is another Godsend. Learning to use the software is a must when dealing with youir cloudy day footage. Cheers, Laurie

Buy another couple of drives and back them up. The drives can and do occasionally crash. Western Australia Now and Then have lost a couple of drives, fortunately, the drive manufacturer was able to retrieve their footage . Unless you want to do slow motion video, there is no advantage in using 60fps. "Anything higher than 30fps is usually reserved for recording busy scenes with lots of motion, such as video games, athletics, or anything you want to show in slow motion. Gamers record at this rate because there's a lot happening on their screen at once, and more frames equals more detail." Something I found, my gear uses PAL 25fps, the phone is 30fps. If I edit at 25fps, the phone footage is choppy. I therefore edit at 30fps when using phone or drone footage mixed with 25fps. The explanation will take too long, but it's something you can google. Generally, you don't mix Frame rates, but this is a work around that works. Your software is the most important investment and piece of your gear, and needs to be learned. It can also be the reason why footage loads slowly or quickly, and indeed renders quicker. There is a plethora of information on You Tube in tutorials that teach you every thing you want to know. cheers, Laurie

Ken how do you upload to utube . do you just upload over the 4g from phone or do you use somesort of wifi link (starlink or cowfish ) also do you upload on the road or when you get home

Hi Les, when we are on the road on big trips we used starlink, they have high upload speeds. On short trips or at home we just use 4g or park wifi, usually much slower due to upload speed. If slow speed can take hours to upload 30min video. When travelling the starlink cost is about $179 month. Works well but we only turn it on when we go on larger trips. Otherwise tether to our phones. Thanks for watching. Hope it helps Ken and Julie
