It’s a trick that came to my notice when Apple introduced the arp plug in. Put it on a drum machine plug in and Chuck some chords in. (It might have been used on other DAWs before) Sorry I see this is expanded on later in the video

Question about the arpeggiator pattern: can you get a resulting score in midi? Or just a manipulation of the audio

  • @kavokei1337

You can route MIDI from one track to another and record it in Logic, can't you, surely? Not familiar with Logic these days but I can do that in my DAW

really cool piece! i have a question about the arpeggiator(which is really cool). does it work using it's own generated sounds, or does it work on sounds generated by the Spitfire libraries? I ask, as I use Pro Tools which doesn't have a plug in like that(of course..lol), and I'm seeing plug ins that are 'midi' arpeggiators, but it seems like they generate their owns sounds(maybe) as opposed to working on sound you already have in a session. of course, this assumption may be inaccurate....not sure... would love to find a solution for PT.

A MIDI arpeggiator is exactly what you want, all that its doing in the video is creating sequences off a single MIDI input which then feeds back in to the instrument. You may find your MIDI controller/keyboard has a built-in arpeggiator so that you can send these signals at source which makes them a lot easier to tweak on a per note basis. Its hard to believe ProTools doesnt have this built in, but there are many different ones available. You may see "Arps" mentioned which is what you're looking for, some will push more of a random/evolving sound while other will just let you put down repeating arpeggios in a scale of your choice. Hope this helps :)

@@stuartcampbell1845 this does help, thank you...been doing a little research, and found a few things I think may work...yes...it is hard to believe Pro Tools doesn't have one. I do use the arp, or at least the sequencer stuff on the instruments that have them(like some of the Spitfire stuff already does), but this is cool to be able to sequence things whenever and however you want...thank you for answering Stuart

At 48 tracks I'm reticent to call this "minimal" but it does sound really good and I never knew about the magic of the arpeggiator, I don't use Logic but my DAW seems to have one of those too so definitely going to play with this as well in the future :)
