    Many years ago (1960s) I’m not sure but I think plastic plants were fairly new then ..I always bleached my plastic plants , never ever had a problem, they were really well rinsed many times afterwards..Now I’m back in fish keeping again ..My how it’s all changed, Feels like I’m a beginner all over again .

    We have a similar past. I left fish keeping during college and with a job that required a lot of travel. Then I got back into it after my son left for college and I inherited his tank. And the wealth of information and products is 1000x what it was in the 60s.

    The quality of the video is the same as usual on my phone. But the quality is much better when I stream to my smart TV. I can actually watch in 4k. So Unless you have a high quality smartphone with 4k or close to it I don't think anyone will tell the difference on their smartphone. But saying that the devices are getting better and better all the time and you have really future-proofed your channel. 👍🏻

    Hey Ben, from what I've seen bleach is more common for plastic and a heavily diluted mix of peroxide and water in a spray bottle is more for large leaf slow growing live plants such as anubius that are commonly not planted and can be removed. I personally wouldn't risk my fish over black algae on anubius but I have seen it done. I believe Aquapros has a video on it but would have to go pretty deep into his videos to find it.

    Hello your video ( image and sound is perfect) Can you do the same cleaning process for your rock?? . Thank you.

  • @BenOchart

    @BenOchart

    4 жыл бұрын

    I really don't see why it wouldn't work on rocks. But some rocks can have reactions to certain things, like I've heard that some rocks break apart when boiled, for example. But because I'm using such small amounts (two cap fulls in a 5 gal bucket) it should be pretty gentle. Just be sure to rinse well, scrub, soak in water conditioner for 24 hours, then put back in your tank.

    Definitely better sound and picture quality Ben. It's all very clear and clean. I do the same thing with my plants, they get brown algea, diatoms. Bleach one day, rinse one day. Didn't think of adding the water conditioner, good idea Ben. I'll be adding that to the rinse day, thanks 👍

    Cannot really comment if the issue of the videos stuttering and skipping frames is gone, since the camera was stationary. It might be the old camera or your video encoding settings. This video was OK quality. The fish in the background seemed out of focus, though.

    I just came across this video. I know it's old but if you have a moment I do have a question. Would this method work on those artificial aquarium plants that are kind of silky? I wonder if it would bleach them out as they aren't plastic?

  • @BenOchart

    @BenOchart

    11 ай бұрын

    I wouldn’t do it with the fabric/silk plants. They would lose color. All you can do is scrub them but once they go green or black from algae it’s almost impossible to get them really clean.

    Just an opinion I find driftwood looks a lot more natural than plastic plants, does not “steal” so much prime real estate in the tank and when algae grows on wood it looks really good. It also offers great refuge for smaller fish and less aggressive fish to hang out. The look of driftwood can really be dramatic. Driftwood in my aquariums has resulted in some exciting adventures in Arizona reservoirs and Mexican deserts seeking some of the most sought after and indestructible wood types.

  • @HalfManHalfCichlid

    @HalfManHalfCichlid

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@BenOchart It my 30 years of using driftwood it has added a brown tint for awhile, but has never changed the pH. If you water is hard, like 70%+ of the water in the US, it has a lot of buffering capacity to off-set any tannic acid that may leach from the wood. May be a good topic for a vid in the future? You know me, I like the natural stuff...
