    This is a very helpful video! I can't put extensions in cause I shave my head due to balding issues. But I plan on ordering a decent enough wig, so I can put wool dreads on top, then buzz the back and sides of the wig so it will look like a dreadlock undercut hairstyle 🙂

    Loved the video. Very clear instructions. Thank you! I now have synthetic dreads but they are very stiff. I want to make wool dreads for the next set, thinking those might be more flexible and better to style than these ridged ones I have now.

    do you have any idea about how to make ombre dreads? i would realy love to try

    kiraanko Yes! Your ombre dreads can be done with white wool and then dip the finished dreads in die mixtures. A bit messy creating them and it takes some practice.

    Hey, I really love your dreads, what is your soap to water ratio what were you first spraying on the wool, and last question (maybe) lol what are you rolling them on is it a rubber mat?

  • @shensley1992

    @shensley1992

    Thank you so much! That is a rubber mat but it's just the shelving mats you can by at any home goods store. The mat just help the wool stay in place while your trying to roll it back and forth. It would slide too much on a counter top. Ratio is one part soap to 5 parts boiling hot water. I put that in the water bottle after it cools a tiny bit. You need the hot water and soap to open up the cuticle on the wool which helps it to felt really good.

    @@shensley1992 Thank you, Yeah I have tried a towel and just doing it between my hands and it wasn't staying tight and i don't think my water was hot enough. I will go out and get some shelving mats and try again. I think I will just redo the ones I already have first lol. again love yours hope my turn out good, I bought some acid dye and I am going to try and dip dye the ends. (fingers crossed) lol

    Hi I really love your video. Can this be done with just plain hot water without the soap?

  • @shensley1992

    ADRIA TAYLOR Thank you so much. You need the soap to help open the cuticle of the wool. It's very important so that it will felt properly. I add regular dish soap after I've boiled the water (about 1/4 cup for a quart of water).

  • @adriataylor3913

    Oh OK thank you. Is there a specific soap that is needed? Or can it be any soap

  • @adriataylor3913

    And is there a way to loosen them if the get stiff?

  • @shensley1992

    I use regular dish soap like Dawn. I felt mine pretty tight but the get more pliable as I wear them. They just soften up over time. You can experiment and not roll one as long and see how you like it after it dries. It should be at least rolled long enough for it to felt.

    this may be a stupid question with it being a sticky mat but mine that i bought would not stop sliding back and forth on my table, did you have this problem ?

  • @shensley1992

    @shensley1992

    Hi Heather. Not a silly question at all. My mat begins to slide when I'm pressing to hard and it's soapy. Periodically, I rinse the soap off and start over. You can also try rolling on a towel. Put the towel on the counter and your mat on the towel. It may help.

    how many oz of wool do you buy for full head of dreads double Ended

  • @shannonhensley9067

    @shannonhensley9067

    7 жыл бұрын

    Miranda Anderson Hi! I use 16 to 32 ounces depending on the length of the dreads. Remember that if you want 22-24 inch dreads and you are making double ended, you will need to make them at 48" to give room for shrinkage. At that length you will need 32 ounces of wool.

    Do you rinse the soap out after? Wouldn’t they get super soapy when you wash your hair

  • @shensley1992

    @shensley1992

    4 жыл бұрын

    That's a super good question. After the felting is done and your dread is solid, I soak it in cold water to close the cuticle in the wool. That's how the soap gets cleared out. Then lightly wring out, reroll, and let dry.

    Can you use them to have permanently and connect to our hair crochet connect

  • @shensley1992

    @shensley1992

    You can make a permanent attachment by crocheting your hair into the wool dread. You'll want to felt the dread a bit looser so you can get a .5m hook through it.

  • @shensley1992

    Puddytatpurr Good morning. You can use a towel or any other surface (including countertop) that isn't too slick. If it's too slick you won't be able to get it to roll. That mat is just a roll I bought at Walmart to line the inside of a cabinet.

    That's the stuff. It works perfectly for felting. I'm in the midst of editing another video for a synthetic/human hair dreadlock that I just installed on a client. It'll get up here by next week. One of the best looks I've done so far!
