Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I am very excited to share this build to catch video with you! Starting with a block of wood, I carve some handmade fishing lures and take you through the process of finishing them. I then take these wooden crankbaits out fishing for trout in Colorado. Thanks for checking it out, I hope you enjoy it!

    Love your work! I think you could get much brighter reflective properties of the chrome paint by putting down a resin coat first and yes gloss black first. You need to have a shinny base to get a shinny topcoat. Really love your work.

    I have a question i hope you can answer for me please. In a lot of your videos you use different size weights you made with a forester bit to determine the amount needed. I’m pretty sure you said you drilled holes in a piece of scrap wood. I recently tried using a piece of dry oak but couldn’t get them out. I drilled them about 1/4 to 3/8 deep depending on the diameter. Did you add a release agent to the wood mold or use a particular kind of wood? Thanks for your help. 🙂

    Your lure-making techniques just continue to get better and better. For example, this is the first time I've seen you spray the "outline" of your paper pattern, presumably to make the edges more visible when you're at the bandsaw. Great idea, especially for 70-year-old eyes like mine. Overall, in the not-so-humble opinion of one loyal follower (me), this might be the best video you've made to date. The only thing I missed was any explanation of the orange tail-hook dressing you tied at the vise. This didn't look like hackle, but could you tell us what you chose and why? Finally, I recently sent you a message about foil tape on your Instagram page. Hope you got it, Chris

    Thank you so much for watching, I really appreciate it! Sorry I didn't go over the tail hook very well. I just clipped some died goose wing feathers and tied them on. Not very fancy, but I was really just trying to get a little flash of orange to simulate a red shiner tail. I checked my instagram twice and could not find your message. I don't know what's going on with that, but yours is not the first message that I haven't gotten. Try sending it again or put it here if you like.

  • @zimmtex

    I spend at least that long making a lure. I do now track my time, but it includes recording and editing as well. A simple episode takes about 30 hours to put together. I'm sure I could be much faster if I were remaking a lure I've already done before or if I were making batches. But all mine are one-offs.

    @@zimmtex yeah I fished a lot of gold medal and Blue Ribbon trout streams in Colorado and in Michigan. I've used Lots barbless single hooks on crankbaits and Spinners because a lot of them streams are barbless single hooks. You might be shocked but your hookup ratio might even be better thought I'd pass that along

    How do you know what shape of the head affects the wiggle or movement of the lure? Do you have any videos about this? And do you not need to use resin over the foil before painting to help the paint stick? Thanks

  • @zimmtex

    @zimmtex

    3 жыл бұрын

    As I pull a lure through the water and water flows around it, the shape of the head will change the action of the lure. If I make it more round, it will slice through the water more effortlessly because it's more 'aerodynamic'. But, if I make the head flat, it begins to act more like a lip would because the water has to travel farther to get around the head. So, the head is acting like a mini lip in this case. If you look at lipless crankbaits, you can see that they almost always have a flat surface on the head. Big glide baits will sometimes have a flat surface on the chin for the same reason. Great question! As for painting, you don't need the resin to help the paint stick. I typically put resin over foil first so that I can hide the seams on the foil. However, I am finding that I get better detail by painting a coat over the foil first, then painting over the resin just on the top & bottom. I highly recommend trying different things to find out what works best. Thanks for watching!
