Making Wood Arrows (Birch shafts, Self nocks)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Polishing my arrow makings skills. It's one of the first sets I've made. Still a lot of lessons to be learnt. This set was made with the use of birch dowels and turkey feathers.

A jig for cutting self-nocks is available from 3 Rivers Archery, which includes a slot for horn/wood reinforcing, perpendicular to the string cut

It's a shame that you had to waste so many dowels. The craftsmanship involved in making those arrows is impressive- good work!

How are the threaded ends holding up? Anyone got any tips for that? I think it looks beautiful but on my arrows the thread broke after a while. I painted the thread on it in the end but real thread looks way better!

Haha, thats nonsense. There's skill and attention involved and with the color and thread something unique is added. That's good enough for me. Let alone the fact that before you start you have to think about the points, feathering and colors and what the length and width of the arrow needs to be to fit you're particular bow and draw.
