I saw a picture of this block on Pinterest. There was no link. There were no comments that I could find, so I do not know it's origin. Quilt finishes at 75" x 90" and the block finishes at 15". There is one block with two different colorings.

What a lovely quilt, Carol. I've always liked designs that create the illusion of circles with only straight shapes. So cool! Thank you.

Beautiful quilt. Great instructions, thank you for that. The individual bags in a large bag is a fantastic idea, especially when you have so many pieces for each block. Love the color combination in this quilt, tho I usually don’t use brown, I might change my mind. ❤

The Triangle in Square unit is one of my favorite units--they create so much great movement---and color choices (yours seem divinely inspired) really change the look. I paired them recently with cat's cradle blocks using two 9 patch layouts and inversing the colorway on the adjacent blocks to create a neat design. They play well with so many different blocks and create the grandest patterns to my eye. I really like the gray/black/tan/white/brown combo. I save my cryovac meat trays and use them in combination with plastic bags to corral fabric pieces for block construction.

More great comments and ideas, Leisa! It does seem that most of the curve illusion designs use the triangle in Square unit. I have been making them a lot more in the past few years. I will check out the cat's cradle block soon. Thanks again!

Thanks Carol. You have been a great inspiration to me. I have been making baby quilts. So sometimes I make the blocks smaller, but a lot of the 12" blocks make great 9 block baby quilts. Making Windy Days right now. The white fabric is swirls, so makes a cute block.
Thank you for taking the time to figure out all of the patterns you have done. I for oe truly appreciate it.

Another quilt for the bucket list! I subscribed to you this summer & this is the 1st quilt I've printed out. I was happy to find out you're in my state! I'm in DFW. I'm going to look at your blog some more. Thank you for sharing your lovely pattern! I love all the tips on how to organize it! That really made it feel more achievable for me. I rarely cut all my peices at once but I would try it with this one. The thought of having all those little bags prepped and ready to peice whenever I want is exciting to me. I may also make it a leaders & enders project. My main problem with those was the organization & choosing a block or pattern but this feels like a good one. And I already have those rulers. Have a blessed day!

@@CarolThelen Just curious, did u have a 2nd color pallet in mind for this quilt? I love the browns, beige black and gray you chose. I just like hearing the ideas we quilters have before deciding on our choices. I can see this quilt in patriotic colors to.
@CarolThelen
Жыл бұрын
@Rainy Day Diva I love patriotic colors and it seems you can put any variations of red, white and blue together and they always work. The inspiration photo for Making Waves was done in some of these colors. I made a quilt several years ago called Total Eclipse. It was paper pieced and I used these colors. Take a look at the Community Tab on my channel and you'll see some photos of Total Eclipse - kzread.infocommunity

Love this pattern, but I do believe that the original name for this design is actually "Storm at Sea". I have looked it up in old quilt block books. Another favorite from Anita is "The Old Italian block"; which I have been making along with her Arrowhead for about 5 years now. Cheers.

I just looked up "The Old Italian Block" and really like that one! I love discovering "new to me" things that have been around for a few years! Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching.
Love the pattern and instructions. But if you are going to list Accuquilt, it would have been nice to have it in the printed downloadable pattern. Also I only have the 8 inch cube, so pull have been nice to have pieces that could be cut using one cube of any size. You are one of a few who use Accuquilt and I look forward to your videos.
@CarolThelen
Ай бұрын
The AccuQuilt dies are listed in the description below the video. Print the screen and add it to the downloaded instructions. Or write the shape numbers next to the unit in the instructions. Listed you will see the shape numbers for the 6” Qube. Those shape numbers correspond to all the Qube sizes. All the units in this block are 3” finished using the 6” Qube. Using the 8” Qube, the units will be 4” finished and would make the block 20” finished. The 4” Qube will give you 2” finished units and a 10” finished block. The units in this block can be cut using one Qube of any size because that’s the way AccuQuilt designed them. But, for this quilt, you do need the companion angles in the same size as well. To make this quilt with 20” block using the 8” Qube, first go to the Design / Size A Quilt Calculator (click the CALCULATORS tab) and size your quilt using a block size of 20”. Once you know how many blocks you need, you can go to the individual die calculators for the 8” Qube to calculate the fabric for each unit. Hope this helps!
Love your pattern. Thank you so much. You have different fabric requirements in the download instructions that I printed and in your KZread. Which one will I follow?

Thank You for sharing your quilting expertise. I love you color pick. I see you have given the Accuquilt dies to use in your description. I have looked thru my collection of dies and I do not have the Triangle in Square. Do you have any other suggestion for this block other than buying the special rulers? Accuquilt does not have in stock. Thank you in advance for your help.
@CarolThelen
Жыл бұрын
@kathyGerhart Oh I see they have discontinued that die! There are alternatives for the Tri Rec unit. 1. If you have the 6" Qube Companion Angles, you have the dies you need. They are Shapes 13 and 14. shrsl.com/3qtwx 2. You can purchase these dies separately: Triangle - shrsl.com/3qtws Rec Sides - shrsl.com/3qtwv Thank you for bringing this to my attention and thanks for watchiing! Good luck with your project.
