Making Realistic FMC Routes in GeoFS (Updated Tutorial) | GeoFS Flights Channel

Ойындар

After working on this project for several weeks, I am pleased to announce that I have published a program that can convert CSV files from Google MyMaps into FMC routes for GeoFS. The link to the program is included in the description below. I hope many of you find this updated FMC route tutorial to be helpful! If you have any questions regarding the program, feel free to drop them in the comments below! Remember to like the video & subscribe if you haven't already. Share this video if you loved it! Comment below what flight I should do next. Let's get to 700 subscribers by the end of 2023!

You are the goat dude, this is amazing. Quick question though-how did you find the correct waypoints for the landing?

Appreciate it 🙌 Usually you can use arrival charts for reference. You find those by simply searching for them online. Otherwise, the way I did it in this video is just simply use a line as reference for the centerline, then map out the approach waypoints based on that centerline so it would set me up for approach.

Hey GFC! Nice video, understood it really well. Just 1 question, why do we have to remove the TOC and TOD waypoints? Also can you make a video on how to make a full route with departure and arrival waypoints On Simbrief and Skyvector? Thanks! Your voice was really low in this video, was hard to listen to.

I believe I answered your question on discord, but I’ll answer it here too in case anyone else has the same question. You don’t necessarily HAVE to remove TOC and TOD, it’s just that those waypoints are redundant since they are not part of the created route. But there won’t be any difference in the flight whether you keep them or not. As for the full flight tutorial, I am working on it and you can expect it some time in the near future.

Is this easier than using flightplandatabase or like is this a more efficient way to do it?

If you ask me, it’s around the same amount of work. Flightplandatabase may be slightly easier, however the technique shown in the video results in more realistic FMC routes, and also allows you to get more precise with them, so i guess you could say it’s a trading off a little bit of ease for realism and/or precision.

Do you have to manually input the altitudes for each waypoint into geofs?

  • @GeoFSFlightsChannel

You don’t HAVE to. It depends whether you want to use autoland/VNAV. If you don’t want to use either and want to execute manual climbing and descending procedures, then you can leave the altitude section blank. However if you want to use autoland, you’d need to input altitude for just the arrival waypoints and configure the AP++ script (Check my autoland tutorial video for that). If you want to do VNAV for the entire flight, then you’d have to input altitudes for every waypoint.

I noticed this issue as well. It appears to be a problem with the Google Chrome browser. Try doing this on another browser like Firefox or Safari, and it works fine.
