I do a ton of studying but tbh all it takes is faith the size of a mustard seed, not a PhD to receive what the scripture says, so at the end of the day it's not important how "nerdy" or "smart" or "educated" we are because the Bible states that God uses the foolish things of this world to confound the wise....this is why some fishermen could interpret the Bible better then the educated religious folks of their day.........idk why but I see much "nerd" talk on here and it just feels like a bunch of ppl are wagging their own tails....

I wish Tim would come and preach this in my Church. I have been trying to teach Old Testament Survey in my Sunday School class and gave them a little bit on how we got our Bible and will give them some more, unfortunately it is just way too much to give it to my Sunday Morning Church. These days you only get one sermon on Sunday, and you get the cream of the crop in Sunday School and what they should be learning at their age in Christ is way over their heads. Sunday sermon to the congregation, you don't get the cream of the crop, just the crop. Its a lot harder to bring it down to their level, especially when your Pastor doesn't know it because he never bothered to get training from a Bible College or Seminary and he is threatened by those of us who have any formal training so we are not allowed to preach.

I have members of my family who have been giving over to Satan after rejecting Jesus as fully man and fully God, they now have left jw cult but are worse now they believe in flat earth, new age etc any lie so long as it is not the truth of being reborn of the spirit by trusting in Jesus sarafice alone. I'll say a quick prayer for you that the Blinkers will be lifted from your eyes. The Gospel of John makes its clear who Jesus is, that is fully man while he was on the earth yet fully God eternally in the spirit, salvation is all about our enternal spirit which of course you have been told and have accepted doesn't exist. I'm surprised Mackie doesn't know this: "How can you trust the Genesis account if it was written by Moses thousands of years after the events allegedly took place"? The Book of Genesis was not necessarily written by Moses. Moses most likely edited, revised and compiled several previously existing books of generational, accounts of genealogies into what we call, "the Book of Genesis". Genesis actually means, "genealogies". So when we say, "the Book of Genesis", we're actually saying, the "Book of Genealogies" or "The Book of Generations". The Book of Genesis was most likely compiled together from 10 previously existing books/texts/manuscripts which had been written and handed down from Adam. These 10 parts are known as the "Toledot" in Hebrew. Tol'dot, Toldos, or Tol'doth תּוֹלְדֹת - is the Hebrew word for "generations" or "descendants". Each time that Genesis reads, "These are the generations of...", this is, more than likely, a different author signing off. For example: Genesis 2:4 KJV “These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,” Some scholars believe that the 1st chapter of Genesis was actually written by God Himself and then given to Adam so that he could add his story to it and then pass it down to his children who would add their story to it and so on and so forth. In fact, The first chapter of Genesis refers to the Creator as, "God" but starting in chapter 2 it begins referring to Him as, "Lord God". It seems that there is not only a difference in the title for God, having added more reverence to the title after the start of chapter 2, but also every time that the phrase, "These are the generations of..." appears, the style of writing itself changes and it is often very dramatic and noticeable. Consider this: When Moses edited and compiled these 10 texts together, he left Adam's "signature-off" still reading like this, "This is the BOOK of the generations of Adam". Genesis 5:1 KJV "This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;" We see this phrase used 8 more times in the book of Genesis and again once more at the beginning of Exodus. Genesis 6:9 “These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.” Genesis 10:1 "Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood." Genesis 10:32 These [are] the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood. Genesis 11:10 These [are] the generations of Shem: Shem [was] an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood: Genesis 11:27 Now these [are] the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot. Genesis 25:12&13 Now these [are] the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's handmaid, bare unto Abraham: And these [are] the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam, Genesis 25:19 And these [are] the generations of Isaac, Abraham's son: Abraham begat Isaac: Genesis 36:1 Now these [are] the generations of Esau, who [is] Edom. Genesis 36:9 And these [are] the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in mount Seir: Genesis 37:2 These [are] the generations of Jacob. Joseph, [being] seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad [was] with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives: and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report. When the Book of Exodus starts off, Moses (the author) had not yet even been born. He obviously must have received the information contained in the beginning of the Book of Exodus, which is that of his geneology from Levi onward to himself, as well as what had happened in the years just prior to and leading up to his birth either orally, or more than likely, from previously existing books/scrolls/texts/manuscripts which contained it, which had been perfectly copied and handed down from generation to generation starting with the Creator-God (YHWH) and Adam. Exodus 6:16 And these [are] the names of the sons of Levi according to their generations; Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari: and the years of the life of Levi [were] an hundred thirty and seven years. Notice that this verse tells us that the information in the verse is, "according to their generations"; meaning that this information was taken from a book of generational accounts of geneologies. I suppose it is possible that Moses could have received all of this information directly from God (YHWH) because the Bible says that Moses talked to God face to face as a man talks to his friend; and who could possibly be a more reliable or credible source than the Creator Himself, Who cannot lie? However, I personally believe that these were all eyewitness accounts which were handed down starting with the Creator-God (YHWH), Who had planned from before the very beginning to bring about the Bible. It appears that God started the book and passed it onto Adam, who passed it generationally down to Noah. Noah would have taken the books of each generational account onto the Ark and after the flood he would have studied and copied them over and over for each child that was born, or at least the sons, unless there were only daughters born to a particular individual. They would have then been copied and passed down from generation to generation. From Noah to Shem, all the way down to Terrah, then Abraham; then Isaac; then Jacob, who would have given copies to each of His 12 sons, one of them being Levi whom Moses is descendant from. However, more notably, a copy would have been also given to Joseph, who after being sold into Egyptian slavery by his jealous brothers, was elevated to the second highest seat of rule in all of Egypt after accurately interpreting the Pharaohs troubling dream, which symbolized 7 years of abundance followed by 7 years of famine. As the person with the most authority in Egypt directly under the Pharaoh, Joseph most likely would have added copies of these family history books to the public and royal Egyptian libraries and schools; where Moses was eventually brought up, also as Egyptian royalty. To me this makes the most sense because God promised in the very first prophecy in the Bible, that the seed of the woman would bruise the head of the serpent. God understood that His people would need to trace the Messiah's family tree all the way back to Adam so that we could clearly see that Jesus was indeed the seed of the woman from the Genesis 3 prophecy. Jesus was the Son of Man and the Son of God. However, He referred to Himself as the Son of Man more that anything else. It required the Son of Man to save man. I don't take any credit for this, this is solely the work of the Holy Spirit which drives me to study and the Bible commands in II Timothy 2:15 that we must, "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" . The Bible also commands in I Peter 3:15 that we should, "Be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear". And King Solomon wrote in Proverbs 18:13, "He that answereth a matter before he hears it; it is a folly and a shame unto Him" While Proverbs 1:5 tells us that, "A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:" Proverbs 1:7 says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Finally, Jesus said in Matthew 10:16, "Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves."

I’m 10 minutes through and all I can say is Amen! I’m a newer Believer and I spent years in the new age occult belief systems. God showed me the truth and saved me from it. I was spiritually and mentally attacked when I began to turn towards the Lord, but HE saved me. I denied him and he stall came to recover me. So faithful. Since He was so faithful to me, I shall be to Him. The Holy Spirit transformed me. No one could ever make me not believe in the Word or God. Though, I do understand how those not grounded and unfortunately double minded can be swayed. I was one of them. I think it’s so important for people to learn to teach the Bible correctly. I don’t think most people have an accurate understanding of what happened on the cross. That’s what keeps them ungrounded I believe. That they don’t understand and therefore, truly believe. Due to my wickedness and the supernatural way in which Jesus showed up for me, I made it a mission to understand Him. That’s why I’m listening to this video. I pray the same for all believers, that we desire to grow close to Him and stay in constant contact with Him.

I am extremely leery of organized religion. However...I do believe in a Creator/Designer. I read, research, and listen to many orators. Mostly those who use useful tools to try and discern the reality of a God, not just emotion. Don't get me wrong...I believe emotion plays a part in a relationship with our Creator, but I find many...who ride that wave, without giving a second thought to what this creation is all about. I like speakers, who, instead of telling you, you will be blessed if you just believe...and send in money. No...I want a speaker who can show me evidence and history of a Creator, through language and historic facts. This speaker...does that. I also love to watch science programs. Science...can help one get closer to God, because it shows how God created and/or the amazing way in which He did create. Just saying...I can appreciate this speakers direction, using historic facts. The bible is incredibly accurate, according to even secular scholars. They know this...because of how accurate the 2000 year old Dead Sea Scrolls match today's written text. I do not believe that to be a coincidence. That it the type of 'evidence', I want to hear about. Archelogical finds...that verify the Bible are incredible as well. For centuries, scholars have claimed many cities mentioned in the Bible, were myth. Then in the 18th and 19th centuries...lo and behold...they find these cities, buried under the earth. That is not anything to dismiss lightly. It shows how wrong man constantly is. Always having to revise their history...because of new finds. And usually always matches up with what the Bible said, to begin with. Truly remarkable. This...is the type of 'sermons', I need to hear. Not...you are going to be blessed if you send in money. Or let's all get worked up emotionally; so we can feel good about praising the Lord. Show me facts...not emotions.

I like this guy...Tim. What I can appreciate about him...is one...his clarity. But even more so, his way. He comes across as humble, sincere, and genuine. Which in my mind...is the exact way Christ Hinself, came to teach the people. I was brought up in a strict religious cult, who preached vehemently, that there was such a thing as 'God's Governement'. And its teachers, which were called 'ministers', were the leaders in charge. There was an authoritative aura about them. One that could easily be abused. To the point where they told people who they could marry, what clothes to wear, and what type of diet to have. They were to be feared. And they were feared. I don't remember Christ ever acting that way. Nor...any of the disciples. I can truly appreciate Tim's approach. It is a learning lesson, that comes across...as showing love. And we all know...God literally claims...to be Love.

Thank you for your the Bible Project, for the "How to Study the Bible" series, and especially this video. It confirmed and fleshed out thoughts and beliefs I began developing about 20 years ago when I returned to the Church, as an adult, after two decades away, and decided to very carefully study the Bible as whole. I did my best to follow the axiom, "the best guide to what the Bible has to say is the rest of the Bible", which meant to me set aside all preconceived notions, (But both subsequently and simultaneously, I also watched for the chapters and verses from which the various faith traditions I had studied in Comparative Theology derived their distinctive tenets, so as to better understand their perspectives.) I have grown tired of people telling me things like, if you don't believe: "… about 6000 years ago God created the the universe in exactly 144 hrs and then rested for exactly 24 hours…” or "It had never rained anywhere on Earth, then God instructed Noah to build an enormous floating barn, fill it with hundreds of thousands of different species from everywhere on the Earth and then flooded the entire planet to a depth of at least 1000 ft above sea level… [or even 30,000]" or "God dictated every letter of Torah to Moses in 40 days on The Mountain and the current Hebrew text is of Torah is almost identical to that (and that the origin and transmission of the Nevi'im, Ketuvim, Gospels, Acts, Letters and the Revelation to John of End of Days Prophesies are similar…" then "you can't be a Christian" or "you are an apostate". You have reassured me and many, many like me. I hope you are reaching both Christians at large and "the world outside our doors".

Dear Lord, give me the control to not read the comments. Please help people to be kind and loving, even if they disagree. Let the ones who are not followers of you be impressed by the gentleness and sense that they find on this comment section. Amen.

I really hope he and his team gets involved with film making. Can you imagine this level of scholarship and his ability to see the hyperlinks all through the scriptures being illustrated in animation and through a action/drama series? That would be 🔥 and I think it would rival any period piece or fantasy based drama that has ever been produced. How can we encourage this? Is this a desire of the Bible Project in the future? And how can this question reach him? Would you all want to see this?

Check out The Chosen. Very parallel to Mackie’s view on simplicity and continuity of scriptural message.

I am praying that God willing lead you into greater and all Truth. It is one thing to be well versed bible geek, but to miss the Truth altogether. May God continue to lead you and keep you. Blessings.
