Joram, a film by Devashish Makhija, released in 2023 travelled all over the world with it's amazing story and gained the appraise of the film enthusiasts worldwide. Piyush Puty, the award-winning cinematographer at the Durban International Film Festival for the same film, sat down with us for a little behind the scenes of Joram.
Piyush shares his process when he first read the script, the physical transformation he went through for his job as cinematographer, his experience working with Devashish Makhija and Manoj Bajpayee in the heat of Jharkhand, and the various techniques and jugaads that were used to bring this film to life. It wasn't an easy film to shoot, given the conditions, but Piyush and his team were ready to make the best of those harsh conditions. The film garnered a lot of love not only for it's exceptional storytelling, or the amazing performances by the actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Mohd. Zeeshan Ayub & Smita Tambe, but also for the raw and authentic cinematography.
