When the 12 minute mini doc feels A grade, you know the feature is about to be AMAZING! Proud of you Danny.

I sometimes listen to binaural beats when i'm doing anything creative, try not to do it too often that way i don't build a tolerance or anything. But the gap in frequencies can focus your brain, it's really good for deep flow work because your brain tries to adjust your hearing to match the freqs or whatever the science is. Never thought of anyone integrating binaurals into soundtracks, could be a very very cool touch in filmmaking. Reminds me of how Christopher Nolan used Shepard Tones in Dunkirk!

It's been a fun experiment incorporating these techniques into the score. And Shepard Tones are awesome! Very clutch in film music for creating suspense

anything you touch is inspiring. I was at a dead end in pre prod for a documentary on a painter and all of these ideas started flowing after watching this. Still so pumped to see the film. Great work Danny, Matt and John.

I wish this was longer lol it was so good and so insightful. There’s so many videos that show editing and filming but there not a ton of filmmakers who pull back the curtain when it comes to composing the score and I found this so fascinating

Music is so magical. When I heard the music for my film, I was like, "damn, I hope this movie is good enough for this music". ;) Can't wait to see your story. It's been a great journey to witness from afar.

Loved the raw "documentarian" approach. I am realizing more and more that sound composing and design is such a huge part of storytelling. Definitely worth it to invest to take a video to the next level

The whole process is beautifully painful. I'm in the middle of post production for a few very heavy VFX commercials and I have to stop, look at everything that's going around and enjoy the beauty of that creation. I can't wait to see your film Danny, as it's been said in the comments: if these BTS it's top notch, can't imagine the final piece. Cheers!

The paradox of this doc is that it's filled with "in-between" music

Well, binaural audio is just a technique used to record audio with two microphones to recreate human hearing and perception of sound. If you would like to recreate this technique in computer, you must firstly add phase delay to one of the channel to simulate time differences caused by distance of each ear from the sound source. Then you need to add loudness differences and then you can change timbre to reflect sound bouncing and resonating with head and other environmental elements. If you do this right, you will get incredible 3-dimentional sound with precise location of each apparent source, but you will experience it only in headphones. What these sound composers are referring is probably something slightly different

Agreed -- it's very cool to apply traditional scoring/music writing over top of it. We haven't dove into other scores applying it (I'm sure there are?), but super excited to continue exploring binaural beats - in our own work and from others. All credit to Danny!!

Thanks Danny, that's great! It is so difficult to work at this level in my daily client work. Our clients want to have a say, become creative themselves and if possible participate in the “cool creative job”, unfortunately mostly without any prior knowledge … and without trust in a good team. I'm just a little jealous. 😅 But very motivated to work more courageously in this direction.
