Making Miniature Leaded Windows | Tudor Doll’s House Makeover Diary - Part 18

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Please note, none of the items that I make in my videos are toys: they are not for children. All of my miniatures have small parts and are made with a variety of tools and materials. They are also not edible. Please do not follow my videos as tutorials - they are made as diary entries to show you the progression of my doll’s house makeover.
In this video, I finally attach my handmade miniature leaded windows to my dollhouse! For those of you who have watched the previous videos, you may be aware that I started to make these twelfth scale leaded windows a while ago, but I’ve waited until now to attach them in place because I was worried that they would get knocked while doing some internal restructuring within the dollhouse. In this video, I show you how I made the miniature leaded windows set in a stone surround, and then attached them to the house. This was the final part of the external work for my dollhouse makeover, and I’m really pleased with how it’s turned out!

These windows look great! And I think that was such a smart idea to divide them into thirds instead of the original one large window. 👏👏👏

Thank you! I spent quite a while looking around the shops for something to repurpose for the shape of the leading - I was initially thinking off soldering wire and making it into my own diamond shapes, but I’m glad I found this as it is a lot neater!

@@thelittlemouseshouse Oh boy, soldering wire bits would have been a job and a half. I don't doubt that you could do it, but the grid you found looks perfect.

If only I knew Wilko had that before it shut! 😢... I was building a medieval house end of last year and the windows were the last part to complete (I resist purchasing crafting stuff at all cost). Anyway, come Christmas we were given a hamper which comprised of box of cheese crackers. Not only did I have me eye on the box, but the plastic container had sections with a diamond patternation in the bottom of most. I used a fine tipped permanent pen to draw in the lead. Works a treat! Btw, yet another brilliant episode and so in keeping!

😊 I forgot to say but after seeing the diamond mesh here, I got a heap of it (more than enough to do every Tudor window in my project for a couple of quid. Usually everything in miniature is expensive so thank you for the tip! I really like how you made the 'diamonds' bigger in the larger windows (I wish I was as sensible with my craft knife, I'm forever getting these tiny but really stingy cuts, I need to follow your advice lol!🤪 you should get a couple of old makeup brushes and before you change your exacto blade, scrape the colours of pastels you use most into one of those divider boxes you get with nail art. It keeps them less messy and easier to apply with the brushes which are made for powder.

If you add white glue to the poly filler, it will not crumble. But it is hard to remove if you decide you need to change where it is. All positives have a negative, don't they?

  • @thelittlemouseshouse

Thanks for your suggestion. I think, if I’d have added glue, the consistency may have changed too much for the texture that I wanted, especially because I scraped away to reshape the edges. Thankfully, I quite like the crumbly windows - it makes me think they’ve eroded over time. It was only two that did crumble and that was because I added a second coat before the first coat had dried. The others are nice and solid. So I’ve learned my lesson to be more patient and wait for things to dry! Thank you for watching the video and leaving a comment.
