Making Matchbook Notepads Inspired by Little Hot Tamale

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I watched a video by Little Hot Tamale and it inspired me to create my own matchbook notepads. Here's her video in case you'd like to check it out. • Diy Notebook - Matchbo...
I keep track of videos I watch in a journal and will link that video to the end. For some reason, I thought this video was older, but didn't realize it's a pretty recent video.
I used my own measurements and changed things to accomodate the papers I bought at Joanns. They were on sale for 10 for $2 and every sheet had several pieces you could cut to create the front of your matchbook. Many of you know I'm a huge Halloween fan and am trying to help others with fun ideas for classrooms for Halloween. A friend is doing a fundraiser and I wanted to donate some things, and these are fast and easy to make.
I used ten pieces of typing paper cut to 7 1/2" x 3 1/4" wide and fold them in half. If once you fold them in half, you have any edges that stick out, trim them with your paper scissors.
For the outside, you will cut it 8 3/4" x 3 1/2" then score it on the 8 3/4" side score at 3/4" and 5" but be careful scoring trying to make sure you don't push so hard that you crack your paper. Fold the 3/4" score up and the 5" score down, so it looks like a matchbook. I used an electric stapler (as I don't have the strength to staple without it through this depth of paper.) Use your bone folder on the typing paper and really press that fold as thin as possible. Use the bone folder on both sides (flip it over), so you make that stack as thin as possible near the top so you can staple through them.
I used an Infoguard electric stapler that I think I bought at Walmart for my stapling.
Put your folded papers into the bottom where the 3/4" fold is, and center the 10 folded papers with the fold edge down into the bottom and use your stapler and staple on the bottom with two staples. I didn't like the way the backs of my staples stuck up, and worried people would catch the staple on their clothes, so I used pliers and squeezed the staples so they were flat on the back.
I cut the papers from Joanns down so they would fit on the front of my matchbook, but not so it's sentiment might be lost under the bottom flap. I used tape runner and wet glue to apply my image, then used a brayer to ensure it was well adhered. I liked the idea of adding washi tape to the flap on the bottom so it would cover the staples and look like the thing you strike a match on. I used two layers on front and back to make sure the staples would be able to be well covered.
Please make some of these and share them on my facebook page, crafting for almost everyone, as I'd love to see what others are making.

Wait until you see the video I made of making a Christmas wreath for a cemetery. I think I lost my mind and hope Rich can edit out some of the crazy things I said. My cousin Shelli and her friend came to craft, and we turned her friend into a human bow jig and yes, I put it on camera. It was so funny and she was such a great sport. My bow jig just wasn't big enough to make the size bow we needed for the wreaths, so we had her hold out her arms (and of course we use glitter covered ribbon)....the glitter was flying everywhere and she was covered in it from head to toe...It was so much fun and she made two really awesome bows. Who knew a human bow jig was the way to go?

Another way I learned to make these was to do a double fold on the staple end so that you can hide the staple inside the card. Easier to show than explain ...:)

Crafting For Almost EveryoneIi'm in south Louisiana, and you know I think I have that stamp. Unfortunately I have not been able to find my Halloween stamps. I moved out of my house and back into my house last year because of the flood and I still haven't unpacked everything. I did just find my Christmas cards I had started before the flood - at least I'm a step ahead of that :-). Thanks for the info. I really enjoy your channel!

I think that's funny, because it happens to me all the time. I started buying the really hard sided suitcases and probably show one in my craft room tour. They hold a ton and stack standing on top of each other. I write Christmas or Halloween on it and that helps me stay organized for holidays. The rest of the year, they are stacked in the back of a closet. Everything else is subject to a "Search and Destroy" kind of mentality, as I lose more things than I find...especially crafty items I need to return...So frustrating, so I know what you mean. Rich just gave up his closet and ripped out the closet organizer to put in a closet downstairs for his work clothes (since he's retired now.) All that needs done now, is to fill the holes and paint the closet and I'm so excited, as it will give me a lot more room to organize. I could probably fill it with my stamp collections alone (how embarassing to admit that!) So glad the weather this year hasn't hit your area, you've been through enough. Sandy

I forgot to mention that the suitcases are the old ones from maybe the 1960's and most people can't get rid of them at garage sales/thrift stores, so I pay usually $1-2 for them (and considering the amount they hold, that's a great deal for storage...)

Lynn, The papers that Joanns sell are just a little too big for it, but I really liked how each sheet has twelve on it, so for me, it was only 20 cents a sheet on sale and if you're from the US, you can't throw a stone without hitting Joanns, haha. I'd love it if you would share a photo of yours on my facebook page, crafting for almost everyone, so others can see what you've come up with. I could have put 3-d embellishments on it, but wanted to stick with what a matchbook really looks like (and the washi tape really made it look like the striker bar) and I got rid of some of my hoards of washi....So glad you liked it. Irmi, I think about you and the sunflower card all the time. My friend that I am doing the collaboration with has been ill off and on for the past six months and she is going to do sign language for her part for the hearing impaired. If I didn't tell you before, that particular video is to let the hearing impaired know that I always write everything out step by step in the info below box, so if you can't follow the closed captioning, that can be kind of unusual, they can read the notes instead. So eventually that video will go live, but in the mean time, I have a house mouse stamp where he is laying in the center of a huge sunflower and I'm going to make a card and send it to you. It's the least I can do after you've been so patient. I don't have your address written down, so if you would email it to me at saundralparker@yahoo.com, I'll make sure to send it to you. (The other video card is ok, but I really want you to have something that I've done a lot of work on, as you deserve something nice. ) I know you haven't minded, but I feel terrible and it's really weighed on me since I told you I would do it and the video hasn't gone live. Rich is backed up with probably ten videos, but i'll make sure I push yours closer to the front of the line. You've been such a great supporter of my channel and I just wanted to thank you...Sandy

It would be so much fun to go to a stamp show with other crafters as poor Rich is my "crafty buddy" and one stamp show we attended, there was a man selling tickets and he told Rich his ticket was free because any man that would subject themselves to that for a day, deserved it. Rich is always a great sport at those...If you have a stamp show near you, they are so much fun...Love all the new shiny things, haha Sandy

If you're asking about the individual sheet that I cut each of the small boxes from, I don't know if it has a name. You almost always can find it in the single sheets of papers in Joanns in racks, depending on the time of year, they usually have it for upcoming holidays. Also, most 12 x 12 pads will have one or two pages that are similar, but much thicker paper than you find in the open stock that would be in your stores. Sorry I can't be of more help than that...I did try finding it at Joann.com, but couldn't figure out what to type in to narrow the search...sorry....Sandy
