I was banished to the bedroom with my black and white TV whilst the girlfriend was watching her soaps on the colour TV. In retrospect, I miss the enforced experimentation that was necessary because of the limitations. Acquiring Making Waves and SoundForge was like ten christmases rolled into one. Now that I have Reason 10, I find it difficult to become inspired. THC helped too.

It's really a sophisticated way to make music even tho it's old. You use way more focus and determination on getting it right the first time, and that can help a lot with finding the right samples and sounds you need to make a cool track. No wonder why there was so many golden tracks back then.. Cool video dude!!

This just brought back some great memories of laying down backing tracks (bass, drum some keys) to take to "band practice" to tell them "this is how WE'RE gonna do it...!" I still have my Amiga 2000 boxed as new in the garage along with all my disks. If I could only read my song disks using my Amiga emulators on PC!!!

3 years later but thanks for this! Super helpful, in a sea of ableton tutorials, I needed a way that applied to old school trackers and hardware samplers and I wasn't sure how to match the bpm without fancy time stretch software. This is exactly what I was looking for

Octamed was pretty cool in that time. I loved this tracker. Now I'm "a bit" further with a proper DAW, softsynths etc. But: I like this video - brings up memories to me. :)

Good 'ol Octamed. My first DAW. Used this in '94 on the Amiga 600. It was strange to first learn with Octamed's scrolling UI then go to Windows '95 and learn Cakewalk Home Audio. I would edit my samples in Audition 4 for Amiga OS. Yep. Audition 4 before Adobe changed Cool Edit Pro into Adobe Audition.

I'm on a it of a Amiga nostalgia trip at the moment. Its funny I have two keyboard workstations, cubase 9.5 and a load of plugins and none of that set up is as accessible or instant as Octamed was,it really was easy and efficient to use.I used to make up songs all the time on it.You would get loads of sound from cover disks even games.I used to get really excited when I got new drum loops.I definitely produced far more music then than I do now with all my moder gear

Same here. Before the internet there was an enjoyful process of scavenging for sounds you made use of in a less is more/make do sort of way. It was very exciting getting new samples, they were precious! I’m hoping to do a video soon with OctaMED and an S3000 to show the MIDI side.

Instead of using the transpose screen to change the pitch of the samples, you can use the INSTR screen and then transpose up and down, and also fine tune each sample.

I managed to sus out how you were copy pasting the range area from one of your other vids along with actually reading the manual. 😂 Keep em coming, would love to see one that went into short cuts and cmd stuff...... you used a cmd for shuffle in one if your other vids but it was on a different version of octamed, super curious to know if that works on v4. Thank you kindly sir 👌
