Making handmade hiking shoes - Making leather shoes
One of my hobbies is making sturdy shoes. Everything is handmade. The shoe is double stitched. This video is meant to share as much knowledge and information about shoe making as possible. Of course it is also just entertainment.

How to learn this art?
@andiswerkstatt-ow4uw

Thank you for your answer! First I watched about 50 youtube videos and just started making shoes. The first few pairs were not usable. Almost every video had something I could learn. In addition, in the early days an orthopaedist showed me the worst mistakes in making shoes. Working as a carpenter helps with precision. And the most important thing is enthusiasm, patience and perseverance.

Thanks for your precious reply! I think that could be a great thing for community to make a playlist about your learning path, trials and errors, design, measurements, common mistakes, etc... You could earn some money too, you deserve it.

My jaw dropped, how much respect I have for this profession. Truly a master. This video is for those who ask: why do handmade shoes cost so much? Here is the answer. I really enjoyed watching this video.

Handmade shoes cost so much for two reasons. First, they are unique pieces. Each pair of boots are like no other, generally they're made by the hands of a skilled craftsman. Second, it takes time for the craftsman to learn and develop that skill. As for most professions, it takes about 10 years to truly become a master.

@@TheGecko26unfortunately here in Croatia they're anything but skilled masters. Most of them inherited the workshop from their fathers and grandfathers and are trying to use the "heritage" as marketing. They typically charge 2-300€ for shoes made out of questionable leather and a glued on sole instead of Goodyear welt. You can get such shoes for 40€ in Deichmann, they'll last and wear the same. There's exactly one shoemaker left that knows what he's doing. Sad, as Zagreb used to be the town of a thousand craftsmen.

I have even more respect for those who managed to organize mass production of this kinds of shoes. The complexity must be on another level

almost all shoes are handmade, it's just that most shoemakers are working for two dollars because you have rights. ☺️

I'm an Orthotic & Prosthetic Practitioner and I bet u could use the same software we use to 3D scan patient's feet/ankles with our phone rather than cast them. Saved us tons no longer having to pay for casting supplies. Saves me a lot of time, too!

This is unbelievable. I've watched you make a water tight wooden bucket with no glue or metal fixturing, a composite bow from animal sinew, wood, and a water buffalo horn, and now a hand made pair of boots? Crazy skills. I watched this one last and the whole time was telling myself, "If he casts the treaded part of the boot himself I'm going to lose my mind." You saved my mind, but it wouldn't have surprised me if you had cast it. You have an amazing array of high craftsmanship skills like nothing I've ever seen.
I always got that shoemaking was highly skilled but to actually watch the entire process was awe inspiring. The tools of the trade alone are mind boggling.

I just got into shoemaking. Trust me,this guy showed just an infinitesimal fraction of all the tools that exist for making shoes and boots. There’s literally hundreds of specialized tools for each step, all in different shapes, sizes etc… And the learning curve for each one… very steep
How on earth is this a hobby?! Wow. Incredible. Thank you for such a detailed video.
I did my time in a shoe factory in the 80's, I could smell every process in this video! Nice one.
I'm in awe. The fact that you're self taught from watching KZread videos is so inspiring. Way to go Andi! I can't wait for your next video!

You are mesmerizing to watch. I love all the detail and the different materials you’re using, great job.
You are meticulous and precise, both your process and the final result are beautiful to watch. You have my respect, thank you for sharing your work with us!
Wow! I’ve never seen this “belt and suspenders” combination of a hand-stitched storm welt AND stitch-out construction. Impressive!
Absolutely amazing work man! This is why youtube is so amazing! We wouldn't have seen this otherwise.
Bravo.
Absolutely superb craftsmanship, as a shoemaker myself I really appreciate the effort that goes into making bespoke footwear.
Oops, wrong color . I'll take them. Wow what a video. Master Shoemaker.

Awesome. When I first came to this country decades ago, my dad took me to a cobbler to have a pair of leather boots made. Back then, we had tailors, cobblers, people who made travel bags. They are all gone now replaced by department stores like everywhere else. The boots needed almost no break-in as they were custom made to the shape of my feet. Sadly I no longer have the boots but I remember the cobbler telling me to bring them back if I ever had any problems with them. I was too young to appreciate his skills then. But with the years and watching you create those molds, and making the boots from them, I am just in awe. Bravo!
This is a work of art! Watching this at work and my colleague was beside me admiring your work and thinking what it takes to make this type pf work when your competition is the industry. Truly sparked a whole conversation.

Well this type of work has an advantage compared to industrial products. They focus on big numbers and reduced costs,so they skimp on materials and construction as much as they can. A handmade boot will last 10 times longer than an industrial one since the construction in sturdier, more durable and the material are better, plus it can be repaired, resoled, even stretched or resized if you can find a skilled cobbler. This is way better than industrial shoes, but the price is generally very high, and rightly so
I am blown away by the variety of skills you have. Great channel
Amazing job, and those blades are very well sharpened. Such skills will definitely be needed in the future after society has collapsed. I can't imagine what it would take to reverse engineer such a craft if you had to start from scratch.
I've seen multiple videos on shoe making, had a crack or two at making shoes myself but yours gives do much information, amazing job.
Master class. People who do this are national treasures.
The pride you take in your craft/art is outstanding😳. Thank you for sharing what you do… truly amazing!

Incredible job! Super customized. Really awesome.

That foam last / taking shape of customer's foot is a brilliant idea.

Carbon spring amazing, lots of techniques shown, most impressive

wow. incredible and wild. i would have never thought this was the process to make a handmade shoe lol. Amazing!
Wow, what a process! I bet shoes made with that much care are a dream to wear.
Norwegian welt, that's how I do it too! I attach the upper differently though. I make a gemming out of canvas and sew it to the insole, then the upper and welt stitch to that. Great job, they're sweet boots!
Those look amazing! Thank you for sharing. Have a blessed day.
It's hypnotic that hand-make process

Im mesmerized. Your work is amazing. Thanks a lot for sharing it
One of those talents that some people have you can practice as much you want but if’s you don’t visualize exactly what and how you want this it will never happen excellent brilliant creativity
All coblers have their own techniques that are worth knowing. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

Amazing, the most beautiful pair of mountain boots that I have seen in a long time. I had a pair custom made by my late uncle who worked in Wengen, Switzerland making these type of boots.
