That alligator definitely knew you were there. They have tiny little dots along their snout that sense vibrations/ripples in the water so even if they’re in a 100% blackened and soundless environment they can still sense prey or potential predators in the water near them and know exactly where it is.

Glad you caught those Barred Owls cackling. One of my favourite sounds of Nature... and I've been experiencing another in the daytime up here in north Alabama, for Brood XIX is now in full effect and we get to enjoy the cicadasong all day long.

Owls, one of my absolute favorites. Super cool.

I wish I had half the courage you do around FL wildlife. I’m not a native but I’ve been here for almost a decade and I’m terrified of everything. I’ll come across the mildest thing and get scared (frog, soft shell turtle, snakes) so you can imagine how I feel about alligators and crocodiles 😳
