Making Encaustic Art

Ойын-сауық

"I think I knew when I began my exploration into the world of encaustics that there would be no tentative dipping of toes. Beeswax and tree resin melt so seductively in the pot, combining satisfying crackle with delicious smells. There is no going back.
Encaustic art offers me just about everything I need both in the rhythm of the making processes and in the nature of the medium."

Encaustic painting can be toxic from fumes, found that out the hard way. Your techniques are amazing

Maggie , your work is so beautiful . I haven’t tried encaustic art but I have a question . If I am going to live in a place where the temperature is sometimes or mostly 35c to 40 Celsius will the was melt on the already finished painting ? Please reply !

Simply gorgeous! Tell me please, what is tree resin? Do you collect sap? Or can you purchase it. I am intrigued.

Gabrielle, it is called damar resin. Best quality is sold by R+F. Bit expensive but worth it.

Hii Maggie! Love your work. I was wondering how did u achieve the dispersion effect on 1:37? I've been looking but I can't figure it out. Love Diana.

Thanks so much Diana! When I was working in this medium I preferred to add oil paint to the already laid down wax surface instead of adding pigment in the wax pot. I could still layer up the wax but then use the blow lamp to disperse the colour. Hope that answers your query.😊
