As someone who grew up with the 1995 version, when I saw the 2005 version in theatres it felt like everyone was talking at 1.5x speed to fit all the plot into the run-time. I also didn't enjoy how the romance plot between Elizabeth and Darcy was focused on to the exclusion of basically everything else, and how it was framed like Elizabeth ~secretly had feelings~ for Darcy the whole time. The whole point is that she *does* loathe him for a good 60% of the book; *he's* the one repressing his secret love, she just wants nothing to do with him and is totally blindsided by the fact that he's apparently been in love with her the whole time. The 2005 film is much closer to the Georgette Heyer-style modern Regency romance tropes, which isn't what I'm looking for in a Pride & Prejudice adaptation specifically.

@S T correct me if i'm wrong since i haven't seen the 2005 in a while, didn't the almost-kiss in the rain happen BEFORE she knew what was really going on? she blew up because she found out he was keeping bingley from jane and they almost kiss? you don't almost kiss someone you loath with everything in you, which she did most of the book until she read his letter explaining the wickham situation.

A&E always and forever. The costumes, natural settings & acting are all quality. And the music has an amazing amount of personality and gives absolutely all the feels. I can almost quote the whole mini-series verbatim, and usually watch it 2-6 times every summer whilst I'm sewing like mad!

I tend to favor the BBC version. A lot of it is because I just don't like Keira Knightley as an actress, but the other part of it is the styling and the vocabulary that is used in the OG is far superior. I'm also a sucker for 1990s adaptations in general as the video quality does not make it feel like I'm watching a reenactment.

The bonnet is gorgeous! Scared my cats when I yelled Oh DUH when you used the paper hat as a pattern frame! I would love a copy! And to just add to the controversy, I am still a huge fan of the 1980 BBC production, which was my introduction to Pride and Prejudice. P&P is still one of the few books I take everywhere. As for the 2005 version, I agree the hand flex and the misty walk were epic. I also have to add the dog to the list!!

It's a beautiful hat, and now I want to make all my dolls little bonnets. And my favorite P&P adaptation is The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, because I can watch it for free here on KZread, and also it's the only adaptation I've ever watched. (I've read Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, but that was pretty dumb.) P&P is just one of those books that I have a very clear movie in my head for, so I don't see myself watching movie versions anytime soon.

Love the hat, well done. I definitely prefer the BBC version so much of the story has to be adapted when time constraints make changes essential to fit in as much as possible. Not seen the '05 version, I saw no point watching another truncated version of the book. the '95 has quite enough changes even with the run time it has. That said one of my favourite books.

I like pretty much every adaptation I've seen for different aspects, so picking a favourite is pretty much impossible. Which of the ones I'll watch depends on the mood. Stunning scenery photography and lovely music? That's 2005 for me. It also has my favourite Mary. Happy and fun? That will be the 2004 Bollywood adaptation Bride & Prejudice. For the haughtiest Mr. Darcy and perhaps best Mr. Collins it is the 1980s mini series. For my favourite Jane depiction, I turn to the 1940s version, simply because her attempts at flirting with Mr. Bingley while sick in bed are ever so adorable. My favourite Kitty and Lydia, as well as general retelling, come from the 1995 version. And I think the bonnet turned out beautiful.

I'm partial to the 1995 version just because it's more complete and what's not to love about Colin Firth?! However, i DO have to agree with you, the 2005 walking through the mist scene is *chef's kiss* perfection!

Love the cute😍 little bonnet you created. Well done👌🏻. And will look even better, with a more subtle/less colorful flower decoration on it. Like you were planning to. I hope you find something suitable. Eventhough the Elizabeth's BBC bonnet does not have ribbons. I think it would look really lovely to have two wide/broad ribbons at the end of each side: where the brim peters out at the neck. And have those just hanging down✌🏻. Warmest 👋🏻 from 🇳🇱 to 🇨🇦 from a fan.

iirc i watched the 2005 first and then the 1995 (i figured i was gonna watch both, start with the shorter one) and i am in love with the 1995 version. 2005 is a proper romance movie from start to finish and maybe that's the reason i like it less (i'm not a romance movie person). the 1995 is just stunning in the casting, the language, THE MOOD, i can't explain it. it's like watching magic happen, the CHARACTER DEBVELOPMENT idk. it didn't feel so groundbreaking in the 2005 to me. maybe because the focus was 100 on those two and a bit of jane and bingley but otherwise everyone was just there? and in 1995 everyone had a role to play.

1995 version all the way! Kiera knightly always so sloppy in the 2005 one. She was a gentleman’s daughter, not a milkmaid, for crying out loud! Jennifer Ehle was PERFECT , and Colin Firth’s Darcy is the only way I ever see him now.

  • @elisabethprice4697

so as someone who grew up with the 1995 version im not a fan of the 2005 one... here's why... first why remake something that was already perfect? and they did a terrible job in my opinion as to following the story which in being called Pride and Prejudice they are supposed to be doing! and third if I hadn't read the book and watched the other version I would be so confused! they barely touch on the whole Wickam thing and when he runs off with Lydia its so confusing because he was in one other scene before that and I was thinking what just happened how did we get here? and sorry but no one can replace Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy also Matthew Macfadyen just does not work sorry(I like him in other stuff)! and Mr. Bingly looks like a bird! last point though there are many more... the whole movie is all over the place it speeds over everything to try and fit it in(And they don't even get those bits right)... all I can say is they try to make the movie different from the 1995 one when they should've been focusing on following the book instead of comparing themselves the the other movie like why? also this one wasn't needed as the 1995 is perfect too the book ands thats the whole point is to follow the original source material! all I can say is that I watched this with my mom, cousin, and aunt and we all thought it was the worse movie we had ever seen! sorry if I offended someone but these are just my opinions! I'm I wrong?

I dont think the Kiera Knightly version is accurate at all. They are supposed to be the highest family socially speaking,in their town, the principle inhabitants, but live in a grotty little hovel. Kiera walks into Netherfield Hall with her hair down;a huge faux pas!!! She wouldnt have humiliated her sister by doing that. Yet she sits there like So what? It just doesnt have the right feel to me.
