Making Crispy 8 Treasure Duck 八寶鴨, modern YLO Style (Chinese Imperial Dish from to the Qing Dynasty)

Hi, I'm Ylo, a Honger who loved the US lifestyle but decided to raise my mixed-race family back in Hong Kong. After being back to my roots for 15 years, I have come to appreciate the tradition of Asian culture and cuisine even more.
I also realize that traditional recipes may not be relatable to this generation. Join me on a quest to decode the complex world of traditional Asian cuisine, making these recipes more accessible for you and me.
In this episode, we explore the ancient imperial Chinese dish "8 treasure duck", which originated in Jiangsu and was brought down to Guangdong. It was even loved by Empress Dowager Cixi in the Qing Dynasty!
We visited The Asiana Restaurant, a classic Chinese restaurant in Hong Kong that has been in business for 50 years, to try this iconic dish. After receiving feedback from our friends and family, I re-designed the recipe to fit our family's taste.
Our special guest in this episode is Nelli, our youngest child, who loves to cook. We had a lovely time sharing how to cook this recipe at home using an oven instead of the traditional method of frying and steaming the duck. We even managed to make the duck crispy like the Peking duck!
So, come along with us on this culinary journey as we show you how to make this delicious and historically significant dish. Don't forget to leave us a comment about which Asian dish you would like us to try next!
