    I recently made my first clone armor out of EVA foam. It was a blast and turned out pretty good! Of course now I want to dive deeper into what I can do and came across your channel. Fantastic tutorials so far! I am curious if instead of super glue/soldering iron you could use contact cement. That's what I used for my foam armor and it's ridiculously strong and bonds instantly. Not sure how well it would hold onto the filament though. Curious to know your thoughts!

    @@kazanth I have been EXCEEDINGLY happy with my CR-10S Pro that I purchased after returning my CR-10S to amazon when the heated bed and part cooling fan died. (Some luck of the draw is going to come into play in the lowish cost 3d printer market.) I have had some pretty good experiences with Creality's customer support when I purchased the printer from their amazon store. In my opinion two Ender 3s might serve you better than a TEVO, but part of that is my general comfort with Creality.

    All in all for the lowest initial investment I would pick up an Ender 3, or Ender 3 Pro (You can work with the build volume for printing armor, but you would have to join more parts together.), and grab a lot of filament. If you wanted something with a larger build volume the CR-10 or CR-10s is probably the best option. [Keep in mind I am not sure the pricing in your region, or where you would be purchasing your printer so if the TEVO is a lot cheaper than the similar Creality printers it might be worth it.]

    Great timing, I'm about to start an armor project. I'm curious about your thoughts on using the 3d printed pieces as molds to vacuum form ABS over? That way you get the best of both worlds, it's still cheap armor but also has the benefits of flexibility and lightweight-ness(?) of the ABS. I'd like to hear if you think this is a good idea or not

  • @GalacticArmory

    @GalacticArmory

    5 жыл бұрын

    It's definitely possible! You would just have to find a large enough vacuum sealer. You'd probably want to wait until you have all the chest pieces assembled and smoothed/sanded first. I believe Imperial Surplus uses something like your talking about and it's definitely possible to use 3d printed armor as your base.

    You can make your own large vacuum former at a reasonably low cost kzread.info/dash/bejne/gWttkrGvgtyXosY.html (I have not attempted this). If you already have a 3D printer, want to get started printing armor, and vacuum forming those parts in abs it is one thing, but after the cost of the 3d printer, the filament, and the time cleaning up the parts you might be better served picking up one of the imperial surplus kits. (Vacuum forming abs parts mean you have to print, clean the prints, if you didn't scale down the 3d prints you need to sand it down if you want the vacuum form to be the size of the original print, get the vacuum form right [It might take a few tries], clean up the vacuum formed parts (This involves trimming down excess material from armor pieces that you have to form in two halves [arm/leg armor] and cutting off the excess sheet material, connect the parts formed in two halves, and then you have to repair any surface defects and paint the parts.). In general vacuum forming is only going to be worth it if you own the rights to the item you are forming and can actually produce and sell kits, or are for some reason producing armor in bulk for personal use. *Edit:* *I have nothing against people making themselves a crap ton of different armors.*

    kzread.info/dash/bejne/oqqYxLZvmMeWXcY.html This is a great video showing what you have to do to finish vacuum formed parts, but keep in mind that by the time you get to this step you will have already produced a full set of 3d printed armor.

    @@dominicbennett14 In my opinion it could be causing it. The pla is still too hot when it finishes extruding so it can warp as it continues to cool. You want pla to be completely cool by the time it extrudes and the fan runs over it, that way it can't change it's shape. ABS is kind of the opposite, you want it to stay mildly warm throughout but that's why you have an enclosure for it and not PLA.

  • @SirKingHoff

    Using that method to hold the pieces together doesnt seem that strong. should really do some adhesion holes with matching pegs on the other parts they fit into. or if using abs then use a mix of acetone and leftover filament.
