Fantastic set of boxes, particularly liked the use of the shooting board to make the liners of the non hinged boxes. One of the (many) things I like about your videos is that you don't try to hide when things don't work out how you would like... explaining why you went from the box joints to the dovetails for the inserts is invaluable for a beginner to see.

Thank you for the kind words and feedback. Much appreciated.
As a precision tool and die maker with 30+ years experience, I am very impressed with the precision of your work. Well done!
Im about 4 years late to the show but these are bad ass! I am a newbie to woodcrafting and woodworking and i am wanting to make each of my two daughters a nice keepsake box. I definitely learned a little for you video and i look up to you and your skill!
Very beautiful boxes! I can't get over how nice that curly maple is. Top notch video as always.
I'll say it again I love these boxes Jay. I really like how you filled in slot in the bottom of the trays and cutting dovetails in such thin stock was awesome.
Utterly fantastic, Jay! I appreciate and admire the supreme care you took in going way beyond the extra mile to ensure that these are far more than just boxes as gifts. They are truly heirlooms that will retain memories for generations. I certainly hope you mark them with your name so that some young fella three generations from now will hold your work in his hands and marvel at the moments you spent making this box to such precise form. Major high fives, Jay, from this retired shop teacher in Tupelo!

Hey larry. Thanks! I did mark them :)
Although this is an older video, I just found it. The work was meticulous and very well done. They will surely be heirlooms.
Beautiful result and process, Jay. Thanks for showing us. I really appreciate seeing the minor setbacks and resolutions. Plugging the box bottoms with that square stock looked very satisfying :)
Your woodworking skill appears to be going up. Excellent work. Great video.
Wow, you really did a fantastic job on these boxes. I just hope that the people receiveing them watch the video to truly appreciate the agonizing work that went into them.
I am endlessly impressed with your craftsmanship, Jay. Thank you for sharing your work with us.
Beautiful craftsmanship Jay ! I really love all the contrasts in these boxes
Gorgeous boxes. Skillfully done.
nice. love the way the tray lowers itself into place.
Simply amazing! Just beautiful craftsmanship. Well done
They look absolutely fantastic! What a great series of videos and I love your mixture of old and new tools.
Great job jay. A true labour of love, which I'm sure the recipients will get when they receive them as presents. As you pointed out in the first video a handmade gift means more than an off the shelf one
The fit of that tray is something to behold. Nicely done.
These are some incredible Christmas presents. A lot of great ideas packed in this video series. Thanks for sharing Jay
Beautiful work Jay
Those came out stunning! Nice to see how much time and effort you put in to them - and it shows! I know I've said it before - but this is why it's called the art of woodworking - this is art! The wood-choices, the handcrafting and the finishing - perfection!
Great work there mate.. Love how the boxes fit perfectly either way round. True workmanship!
Gorgeous work, and thanks for the tips on the shooting board.
the grain flow is awesome! Nicely done.
Great craftsmanship on the maple boxes, Jay! I love your channel and "The Woodworking Podcast". Keep up the great work!
Great project Jay, they will make great gifts. love the materials, the craftsmanship, and the finish choices!
Sliding in that piece around 1:40 was so satisfying! You have me sold on shooting boards, Jay.
Nice attachment for your shooting board. This'll be on my to-do list after the holidays.
Great job Jay. They look fantastic.
Your skill has grown over time. You're at master level as clearly evidenced in small and detailed work. Great to have your inspirational example. Thanks for taking us along. Merry Christmas.
Really useful tips there, thanks for sharing. I'm doing boxes right now, so the timing is perfect. The shooting board is something I really need to make. Every time I see you using it I feel the need. I would suggest using a drying oil rather than mineral oil. Tung oil is perfect for the less is more look, mineral oil attracts dust and grime over time because it never dries. Hemp oil is another option; I just started using it and it does a great job.
Beautiful, excellent craftmanship!!
They turned out great. nicely done.
Thanks Jay, I'm in the middle of making one of my daughters a jewelry box and your video showed up. Perfect timing. I like your technique much better than what I did. I'm going to fix it
Jay - I discovered your channel back when you published the toy box video. I just watched that one again this evening and it is an astonishing contrast to this video. You are awesome, man.
Very nice work, your family will love them. Merry Christmas

Nice work. Fine details.
Spectacular craftsmanship. You really are becoming a master of your craft. I love how you push your comfort zone constantly improving your skill set. I've been a fan for years and look forward to your videos every week. Keep pushing, keep learning, and keep sharing.
You are a master! Thanks for your videos. I learn so much so quickly from watching you!
Jay, What a great gift. You have really chosen some beautiful wood and did a superb job. You are going to make 4 people very happy. Thanks for taking time to video and share with everyone and Merry Christmas, Jim
Just positively fantastic. Give a copy of the build video to each recipient so they can really know what a treasure they have. The maple looked fantastic, very showee.
Gorgeous boxes Jay!
Beautiful work!
Quel beau travail
Oh man! At 9:00 I loved that! Beautiful boxes!
Beautiful Boxes
your work is perfect.
Really beautiful work Jay. Merry Christmas to you and your wife.
Great boxes and I love that gravity fit on the tray. Good to see you cutting dovetails again too, it's been a while.
Beautiful work Jay. They look so awesome. You have a lucky family to get such precious work. Happy Holidays!
Wonderful! The hand tool guys call that fit a "piston fit". Saw your clip on Instagram and could tell you were enjoying it. They really came out great! Of all the makers I watch on youtube, I think you handle the table saw better then any of them. I am glad you had to bevel the box bottoms, I think it looks better.
Beautiful well done
Really nice job Jay, I remember watching your videos 2-3 years ago and thinking,"This guy is really talented, He could really shine if he would use some better materials than construction grade pine & plywood. I went to art school, and its a weird phenomenon. When you use higher grade materials you feel compelled to make things a little better, with more attention to detail. Like the dovetail joints in the trays, It's almost like you feel you owe it to the material to make your work look as good as the wood.
Those boxes look amazing beautiful. Excellent job Jay.
