My first leather project from a couple years ago that I just got around to turning into a video. Comfortable? Yeah. Stylish? Dead sexy. Historically accurate? Sure, probably.

This is wild! I'm working on a pair just like this because I saw them on a statue in a museum and of course immediately wanted to make them for myself. This is super helpful, thanks. Also, I'm not sure if you're trying to be funny, but I find your dark dry wit hilarious. Truths can be so absurd you just must laugh. Much love from the Midwest US 💖

And also, do we keep forgetting that some of those statues are painted to? So they probably had a variety of colors that they were wearing, too.

it's really interesting to see the process and watch you figure out the best way about things as you go - it's actually really historically enlightening (not to mention entertaining). I gotta ask though, when are the helmet/shield coming to complete the costume?

I'd like to do a shield in the next year, it will be more first century than the armor though to fit in the reenactment era. I have no idea about the helmet, I need some practice raising sheet metal before attempting that with bronze

@@brennenkunka7118 I was planning a long time to make a bronze helmet too, but found out that getting actually proper bronze was a huge hassle and seemed too expensive so I figured it has to be out of something less authentic. Still its a problem to find any big enough pieces of sheet metal like that.

@Spegger B8 bronze cymbals are 8% tin, that's what I'm planning to use. Just gotta plug the hole in the middle. I saw one guy hammer down the dome in the middle and it closed itself. Then he just torched it shut

Sandálias romanas. Excelente trabajo. Mucha creatividad. Me gustaron, pero yo le pondría una amortiguador de goma en el talón.

that is just so crazy to think about we had so much in common with the Romans we also have a lot of things in common with the Greeks a lot of our words come from Latin or Greek that's just something that I'm very interested in is their language

Good vid, even high speeded, as i was looking for construction basics, but like the idea of starting with casual footwear as a test bed before trying caligae proper. Also your commentary makes it. I laughed too loudly, woke the dog. Tl:dr - came to see sandals, stayed for commentary.
