Making an ornate iron gate

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Making an ornate style gate for my Victorian house, i wanted the gate to have the look of a cast or forged gate so all the welds are dressed and smoothed out. all the parts are off the shelf iron fencing components which are really cheap.
Total cost of the iron parts was a mere £160 plus some odd pieces of bar etc i already had.

people will watch almost anything if theres some skill or art involved. unfortunately that skill and art was mostly taken for granted until recent years.

@@chilly22 ... I personally believe You are misinterpreting the situation. I believe there has always been and "audience" for "displays of skills", and I don't think that has changed. What has changed is that we ((by the magic of InterNet")) can reach that audiences that are much more "niche" than anyone ever could before. Even if You had ability to use "MassMedia". Simply because through the "traditional massmedia" You would never be able to get a large enough ratio of it's audience to care for Your "niche subject"... But the internet has made it possible for anyone to create the equivalent of a "trade magazine" only catering to a very "narrow audience" BUT since they publish on the InterNet, it's available to a larger audience than ANY of the traditional ""Mass media"" could even dream of reaching... AND it's available for ((nearly)) free at the "beck and call" when ever the viewer has time and interest. AND it's "searchable"... So I believe that's the reason why there might appear as if there is "more interest/respect" for "skills/craft" than before, rather than that the "appreciation" for it has changed much. Best regards

That must have been before the two hit TV shows _This Old House and The New Yankee Workshop,_ which all had very successful runs for decades. I certainly watched all three - couldn't wait to see each development, even problems that had to be resolved. Insightful editing makes almost anything watchable.

The same thing happened to the Beatles at Decca in the early 60's, no we already have enough guitar bands and that's passé, sorry guys but here you don't stand a chance, history has told us a very different story hasn't it over the years. I wonder what happened to that man when the Beatles scored one hit after another at EMI and yes with the help of a good producer too of course and so all the pieces of the puzzle fall into place regarding history. But probably they didn't see a revenue model in it because that also played a role back then and now with all the commercial TV etc. it has basically just become some kind of Mafia practices that's why I never but never watch and listen to commercials and I'm certainly not the only one!!!

This wrought-iron gate that you designed is a perfect addition for you victorian home. I know of an owner of a Victorian who had a stunning iron fence with a gate that had large grape clusters with leaves on it. The entire fence ran all around his large yard. It was originally all black. After some years, he & his wife sanded it, then painted the wrought iron a nice glossy exterior white. The grape clusters were realistically painted partially with a plum & purple colour while some randomly had a little bit of pale green or pale gold highlights on them. Likewise, the green grape leaves were highlighted with touches of gold, burnt orange or brown on random places throughout. It took them a long time to finish but the affect after it was sprayed with a sealer & protectant, was like no other fence I've seen to date. Designing & doing it yourself is incredibly satisfying & a sight to behold! Your projects move me much like that neighbors Victorian fence!

I have plenty to do there notwithstanding but I have been watching this channel for almost 3 hours now and continue to amaze myself. I built two houses on four walls, in short demolished everything that was in them and rebuilt them from the ground up for 90% all by myself and that was more than 35 years ago and the technology that was available to us at that time was what we had to do with, I still don't understand how I/we managed to do that, ha ha ha (we still have the pictures!!! ha ha)

I have watched after some videos and I must say this is craftsmanship 1st class, I myself am not so good with connections etc. as I keep calling it a gift if you own this to see how certain connections are put together. But one does learn from this, it gives ideas and I like that. But above all I love the subtle humor in these videos and yes a big smile comes over me, I like that, life is already so serious isn't it!
