Entertainment Console - Full Build

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Designed and built this TV cabinet for our loungeroom in 2023 to replace one of our remaining pieces of flat-packed furniture in the house. To say this was a lot more work than I bargained for would be a massive understatement. Probably the first of my uploads where I'm not going to refer to this as a DIY piece, I honestly don't even know if I could DIM again.
Constructed out of local messmate timber (an Australian eucalyptus hardwood), and finished with hardwax oil - this piece features two removable grain matched sliding doors, four grain matched push-to-open drawers with a hand carved naguri texture, and a waterfall edge right around the top and sides of the mitre-joined frame.
The carving on the drawers was somewhat of an afterthought. Once I had the initial design mostly built out I just felt it needed something of interest. Inspired by the Japanese Naguri carving patterns, I set out to chip away at the drawer faces with nothing to lose but a length of timber, and the skin off my hands. Absolutely thrilled with how it turned out, but can see why most people would turn to power tools for this kind of carving job.
The pattern I chose served as the inspiration for an enagement ring I had made late last year, and some folks say she only said yes because of that texture.

I have the same table saw. How’d you sort the runners for the table saw sled with the narrow t slots?

How annoying is it they're a non-standard size?! Ended up just with timber runners, not T shaped. Have a frame mitre sled/jig that I added some washers to fit into the track... but for crosscut weight of the piece is enough usually to keep it down

I agree, I find myself watching these types of videos but where all music is removed. The viewer is here for the woodworking. Some people use music to get people from getting bored. But now with the music it’s hard to stay and watch 😕

Thanks for the feedback, always tricky when editing... if I do a video with just woodworking and no voiceover, worried it might be a bit dull. Could maybe upload 2 versions and see what people gravitate to more.
