Making an Eight-Limbed "Kraken" Bow - Penobscot Bow Build
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Building a Penobscot style quadruple bow with the use of hand tools. I used black locust wood for this project. The bow ended up drawing approx 35-40lb at 26".

This bow was inspired by one of your comments (Geri Király - thank you!) suggesting me to build an Octopus bow. What bow should I build next? Tell me in the comment below!

Would it be possible to make a bow similar to this but with the option of using the smaller bows individually as well as all together?

A crossbow would be a very cool thing to see you make. I understand it's not a traditional bow in a sense but it is something that would definitely be fun and different.

It's great wood! Thank you, good luck with your pieces!
Respect for the craftmenship and love in creating ever single bow of the Kraken (also using old school glue). I'm quite not sure if it is a good thing in terms of efficiency but oh boy is it a beauty of a bow.

Before I say anything else, I definitely want one. Makes me chuckle. So my take on any kind of engineering endeavor is, "Does the invention have too many moving parts?!". Is this what happens when over engineered German technology meets Woodland Indian tech? It's a good lesson for acrchery none the less. Cheers from New Hampshire.

Dunno if it's true got told they were for where good bow wood was scarce so combining smaller bows gave them the power to hunt. Makes sense to me, haven't got my bowmaking up to the standard to test the theory out though.
That's great!

What are the benefits of this type of bow vs. Standard/Recurve? It looks cool but does it have more power for distance and penetration?
@Tau_Aquila
11 ай бұрын
It can yes, but the idea is that if you don't have good Bow making materials, with a little bit more work a person can still make a very powerful weapon with worse materials. But this style of bow could probably be used to make extremely powerful bows

That's the sickest bow build video I have ever seen! Love it! I am so happy with my Penobscot bow, that I'm definitely making a 6 limb version this summer. Great job, and have fun shooting it! How long is your main bow from nock to nock? Just wondering ... My Penobscot Bow is 60" n-n. But on my next one I might go to 64" or 66" or do you think I'm better off staying short since my draw is only 26"???
@DreamcraftBows
Жыл бұрын
Glad you like it brother! It's much fun building these! It's approx 59" ntn and the full draw is 26". Depends if you go for the Molly design, if so - make it a 64-66". Good luck man, all the best!!

What is the poundage and how does it compare to a long bow of similar size?
One question, what type of wood did you use?
Do you make your own arrows? There's this video by Smarter Every Day that talks about the archer's paradox where the archer that Dustin (host of Smarter Every Day) asks about it says he makes his arrows with a certain maximum flexibility/stiffness. Is this a factor for you?
Forst arrow head wasn't screwed on right. Otherwise great video !

@@pirateofthepacific9687 I think there _might_ be a small lack of comunication betwen you two, if it was none please ignore this. The _existence_ of extra limbs is practical, the _number_ ("that many") is for decoration. This is an over-the-top Penobscot bow (a bow with a secondary smaller bow to give it extra strength, for when you only have access to inferior bow-making material that would only allow for a weak conventional bow), done with _three_ extra bows for... because!
@pirateofthepacific9687

@@notfeedynotlazy ahhhh ok yes that makes total sense now. That many limbs is just for show but adding an extra smaller bow adds strength to the main bow

How much extra power does the 3rd and 4th Limbs give you? Amazing video nonetheless!!! You could test the lbs by not having wire attached to the extra bows.
