Making a Wooden Bowl with a Miter Saw

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I used Matthias Wandels chart to figure out how to cut up my 12 sided segmented wooden bowl but put my own twist on it.

For future - great way to remove hot glue is to just spray it with isopropyl alcohol. I usually grab a syringe with needle and drop few drops between the surface and the glue. Using capillary action it will get between the glue and the surface and then you just slowly pull it apart. With wood, I have to use a bit more as it tends to propagate also into the wood, but it works 100% :) Try :)

Very nicely done & executed! I might try this using different species of wood for each of the individual segments & then use a blending of those woods for the bottom. 👍👍😉😉

Beautiful work, dude! It really looks fantastic! 😃 But you definitely should install a joystick in your CNC, like Jay Bates did! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Great job!! Based on your title I thought the entire bowl from start to finish was only the miter saw. When I heard you say lathe I was sad to know I wasn't going to learn something new. It turned out great.

Nice build... But I miss the metal background music! FYI: most hot glue will dissolve in naptha or zippo lighter fluid.

Try using denatured alcohol to loosen hot glue. It works pretty well.

Looks like you could have used 2 or 3 more clamps when glueing up the bottom. 😂 Never enough clamps.

Is glue only to be trusted? Would dowels, maybe a bit bigger than a toothpick, be a "more trusted" solution? Or would that be a waste of time and resources?

You cant turn as large a circle as you want with your lathe headstock swivelled 90° You can only turn, say a narrow platter, as large as the motor allows before it hits the motor!

Cool video! How strong do you thing the segments are connected? Wouldn't it be better to cut them so that you get long grain to long grain glue connections? Cheers
