Making a Tribal Earth Lodge Drum

Making a Tribal Earth Lodge Drum
Using flint tools, raw hide and a large hollowed out log I've made a cool drum to suit the Earth Lodge where I stay, make movies and run my courses from.

That's got a good base sound mate! Those Neolithic ax with the v branch and especially the napped and ground smooth ones, that technology travelled in time, all the way down to the bottom of the pacific and here were I live in Aotearoa New Zealand the Maori still used them up to when the first Europeans arrived 1642 and fazed out over the next hundred or so years. They called them Toki. The first ships that turned up here had iron ax heads to trade with. The other day I found one smooth shaped , just the head, that had wash out of the bank, probably only 3 or 400 years old. Young compared to your old timers mate! RESPECT!

I love it that when you need a tool you just go and grab some flint stone and make it! And, a highly effective specialized tools at that! The Hopi/Zuni, here in the South West, make and use a drum out of a tree trunk that looks just like that, however instead of putting a skin on it they lay it on its side and strike the wood. Thank you for the shamanic blessing at the end - that was wonderful! You're amazing, Will! ❤ 👍🌠

When I was a young child my father made a whistle by cutting a stick of a specific shrub and taping on the bark so it would slip. He then made some cuts so blowing on the end made a whistle once the bark was back in place. Never done this myself and it was a long time ago but wooden flutes and such where made by native Americans and no doubt others. One damaged bone flute may be Niedenthal. I don't buy that line of round holes being made by animal teeth and neither to many other people.
