Hey guys, I made a Ushanka, or trapper style hat from the buckskin and rabbit furs we tanned. Thanks for watching, and God bless..................J

It is so great to see another man that is not afraid to set down at a sewing machine. I have caught so many jabs for doing the same thing. :-)

Anyone can be creative, male or female !!!! Those who make 'fun' of someone it is probably because they are too lazy or don't want to learn the skills that can lead to worthwhile projects. I think it is GREAT that you are creative, sewing and or anyway. Do what makes you happy and I know you take pride in what you do.

I am glad I stumbled across your video. My wife sewed a trapper for me over 30 years ago. I still wear it every winter. One thing I wanted to mention was that she used dental floss to sew it together. I think it's about time for me to make one for her.

I swear, you tickle me so , I love your videos. My papaw use to make these too. He use to scrap the hind, some kind of direction you had to scrap it, it would make it water proof, but he used some kind of oil too, but I was young and remember very little. But yea we are native decendant, so he knew some old ways, but how ever you get the job done is the best way. I don't care to correct anyone, not everyone is the same. I love your videos though, you are a true loving and caring person. TO ME THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS. Thank you. To measure wealth, is not by money, but by talent, the ability to use what god gave us, and make something beautiful from it and take care of your family. You JOHN are truly the wealthy man I have seen on here.

Watching you make the hat reminded me of making & putting together a leather wallet. Pooking the holes & sewing it was a trip but alot of fun. I put a biker chain on it so when in my pocket I won't loose it & a pick pocket person would be in for a not so nice surprise 😉 I pretty much still looks brand new and I've had it for 8 years. It came as a kit that I got at a Veteran Center for hospitalized Vets.

Don’t be so self deprecating. I’ve watched several of your videos now and each time you say that you aren’t an expert. Yeah you don’t have a fancy title but you have experience, you are still teaching what you know, and what works for you. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing

You can spray the leather with the same stuff you put on your boots to waterproof them, the spray you can put on your tent works good or to redo your umbrella works. Mr. Lynch was act the man who came up with it but the company he worked for of course took the credit. But I always used it on my Army boots and it worked great. As far as sewing goes, you are doing a great job. Whatever way works the best for you and gets the job done I say go for it ! What's wrong with guys sewing? Nothing ! Being creative is great and a great way to honor the animal who gave it's life for you. Use every bit of the animal that you can and don't forget to thank it's sprite. God takes care of His children.

Also, get yourself a leather sewing machine needle (it has a different piercing tip) and use some heavy thread or even try what you're using by hand. Your machine should handle more of whAt you're doing as long as you go slow.
