Making a Traditional Recurve Bow

Making another red oak recurve bow from scratch. This design seems to be loved by my viewers. Also it have let me win Primitive Archer Magazine Bow of the Month contest. The weapon from video was built for my friend. I truly love working with red oak wood!
➤Dreamcraft Bows official store and website: dreamcraftbows...
The bow draws 35-40 lbs at 28". It's is 70,5" tip to tip. The stick is finished with water based varnish. I used bog oak to make tips overlays and arrow shelf. The handle wrap is from natural leather. I have'nt finished a dedicated bowstring yet.
Shooting the bow through chrono and more footage coming very soon!
❗❗❗Working on bows always remember about the proper use of tools and your safety - wear precautions like googles and gloves❗❗❗
Thanks for watching guys!

Good working!

    As someone who has ordered a hand made traditional recurve bow online that the website said was a 50 pound bow I can confirm.... Hand protection pad? Don't really need it. Getting hit by the string really doesn't hurt at all. Also when you aim up to maximize range the arrows will fly a total of 35 feet. Also it is really easy to draw. Sometimes I worry I will forget how easy it is and pull it back too far.

    Hi. First i want to say is thats is a beautiful bow it really is. this is whats this is all about, making time and love to finding the bow inside that wood. And second, im trying to make me a own recurve bow but o have difficulty to find any good skiss to know the measurements . When you make the first measure to make the shape. From a to b and the line between, i really want to know if there is no problems for you, for me to ask if a can get more info of the measure of your skiss , i would be very happy because i really want to make one. I have tried but just in freestyle but it was to bad so it just broke. This is my third time so i want to do it more pro an with my soul in it.

    With a bow, you want the same grain to run through the entirety of the bow. To get the rough stock that he starts with, he needs to split the piece from the log, which naturally follows the straight grain of oak, leaving a very strong piece in which no grain has been severed. When you start with a plank, it’s generally sawn, which sometimes severs the grain, leaving runout which is where the bow is likely to break when bent. Although it is possible that you have a very straight grained board which could possibly work.

  • @alpinian7144
    @alpinian71442 жыл бұрын

    Also how seasoned is the wood before you start? Looks like the tree was probably 8 inch diameter before split to staves?

  • @DreamcraftBows

    @DreamcraftBows

    The wood was debarked and split then seasoned for 18 months. It was like 10 inches wide
