Making a tail shaft bushing puller from scratch! Saving big money! 🤓🤓🤓

Today we made a very expensive tool for pennies. The tool cost about $250 bucks to buy but that doesn’t sound fun. So we made it
.
.
The part is a pretty simple design and can be made very easy so we decided to make it.
.
The actual part you can buy is a little more complex but for almost no reason. Clearly in the simplified form it works perfectly.

You just tap the new one in. It’s only hard to pull it out

I have to replace the seal and bushing on my 66 Caprice Powerglide. I am a machinist, but I am retired. I no longer have access to a machine shop! Maybe if I ask nicely, my ex-co-worker could make one for me???

I mean it’s such a simple tool I bet he would do it. If he doesn’t we are thinking about selling them. Bring him a nice cake and then ask😂

Just bought one brand new on eBay that came with the bushing install tool as well. $95.

That’s pretty cool. $95 is super good as far as price goes. It’s harder to find them if you need a specific spec.

Awesome entry . We've all been there. That poor laptop. But I don't have the machine tools or welding skills to make that beauty. Certainly fun watching though. Very creative.

Thank you! It was a fun one to film. It definity is a project you could brute force with simple tools but it would be tough. Thats why you gotta make friends with somone who has a lathe😂😂

Well this is entertaining and all that and it is a nice home made tool but here is what I did; 1 sawzall 1 sawzall fine metal blade 1 bench vice 1 removed tail shaft with worn out bushing 1 minute to carefully cut through the bushing over one of the 3 grooves 2 fingers to pull cut bushing out DONE.

😂 glad you enjoyed the video. This was definitely more of a “we could make that” kind of project rather then is there a better way. Your way sounds like it takes more skill as well
