    Took a freshly built TAC only setup last year. Vap tko 300's, 120 gr points-415 taw. This year, new Ventum 33 @ 82lb and she'll be bombing 545 grain hunting Vap SS 250's. Figure I still get 135 outta the sight tape so why not test my complete hunting rig as-is? 7 Springs was a blast last year, just remember to bring double the water you think you need.

    I'll second a lot of this. I grew up shooting 3D, and it's still my favorite part of archery. A few things to add: If you want to shoot small/micro diameter arrows, you can get target points for them, so you don't have to deal with collars. This is most popular for field archery as well. I ran the Victory 3DHV for a while. As for arrows sticking in foam, next time you're at a hotel, grab one of the bars of soap. Rub that on your arrows every few targets, and they pull out great! For larger diameter, I shoot Victory V-Tac 23. Super light. Doubles as my indoor arrow as well.

    Victory Rip XV in a 300 or 350 spine is probably the best bang for the buck if you're building your own arrows. At 6.4 gpi for the 350 spine and 7.1 gpi for the 300 spine you can build some laser beams. And with .204 glue in points = no collar that pulls out in the target you're going to able to remove your arrows. I recommend lubricant on your arrows for target shooting anyway.

    I spent several hours on the couch watching the LAC this weekend. What great competition. In regards to arrow selection you saw everything from small diameter to big old line cutters. It was interesting to see the results…larger diameter generally scored higher the small diameter. The fact you could impact the target in the same spot but LD arrows touched or broke the line more often. And at 20 yards that’s big! Thanks for the video. My son and I will be spending time on the local 3D range this year. I’ll probably go with standard diameter to start.

    I treat 3d as basically just hunting practice so I take my vap tko’s but for 3d I’m not steering a broadhead so I’ll run a shorter vane to stay out of the wind. The lip on the collared insert can grab a bit on newer targets but I’ve found that ice coating pulls out a lot easier than most other arrows. An AAE lube tube can help a lot for that, and running a bullet-style tip vs those long sharp pointy tips will limit penetration too.

    Nice highly informative video that wasn’t even ten minutes long. I am hoping to find some archery 🏹 club 3D courses in SW PA, eastern Ohio or the northern panhandle of West Virginia. I loved doing a couple with my buddy from Washington, PA about four years ago but haven’t done any since then. I also have been looking for arrows for my somewhat new Prime Black 3 bow. My current setup that I used with my old PSE are 340 spine with .204 OD and 11.25 GPI so since my lighted nocks are X nocks and expensive I wanted to stay with the same diameter arrows. The lowest GPI that I found in that diameter was 10.5 in a 300 spine. Since I want to bump up my point weight a little bit I figured the change in spine stiffness was appropriate.

    I’ve just always used 5mm Easton axis 340. And I got some gold tip outserts 25 grain instead of the hit insert, protect the carbon a little better snd 100 grain tip. It’s always did the job for me but it is a 9.5 gpi. I don’t no if I should change to a lighter arrow with a 100 grain point for hunting. Will I get more foc. Or will I just end up with a lighter flatter shooting arrow?

    Thanks for the advice on archery talk! I ended up going with some arrows I found that are made by victory with the same specs as the v force .350 spine I think total arrow weight will be around 380 grains but got 18 of them for $70 so if I break or lose them I won’t cry. I’m shooting 70 lbs so distance I hope won’t be an issue. Would you suggest I get nock pin bushings? Also I may tear off the factory fletch and do a 3 fletch heat vane. Have a ton lying around so was going to use them up.

  • @averagejackarchery

    Nock pins are really useful only in close shots when you're trying to protect the back of the arrow in full-fledged 3D shoots. For recreational 3D or TAC events where it's unlikely you'll be cramming 3-4 different shooters into the same scoring ring, I wouldn't sweat it and run the stock nocks.

    Primarily hunter here and shoot year around out to 70-yards (about the most range without glass my old eyes are good for). Usually put a 2 to 3 degree offset on my vanes and haven't noticed any in-my-face parachute effect that my eyes can detect. Was about to order helical clamp for my jig. Not sure if he was saying that'd be a bad idea. Kind of sounded like it. I image a helical would create a little more drag. So would it be a bad idea?

  • @l.i.archer5379
    @l.i.archer5379 Жыл бұрын

    I built all my arrows with Mini-Blazer vanes at the highest helical the Bitzenberger allows. I get pretty good distance and groups to 80 yards with my Easton Axis 400 arrows cut to 27" with 100 grain points (385 grains total weight), shot from my 65# Bowtech Destroyer 350 set at 27" draw length. I built the latest set of arrows - Victory RIP XV Elite 350- the same way for my Bowtech Solution SS set to 65# and 27", except that I am running their aluminum 21 grain outsert and a 125 grain field point, and Easton X-nocks, giving my arrows a total weight of 334 grains and 15.98% FOC. For these arrows, I'll be setting them up for hunting, so I won't be using them for 3D. I've got the sight dialed in to 75 yards without losing any outserts or tips, so they're good to go for hunting season. I just have to make sure my fixed blade heads are spinning true.

    Good day. Hope you can help me here. For World Archery 3D, the basic parameters for arrow build are generally as follows; 1. Two arrows per target. 2. All unmarked distance. 3. No speed limit. 4. Poundage is limited to #60 for compounds. 5. Maximum distance for compound is 45m; other bow divisions are 30m. 6. No minimum GPP arrow weight. 7. Maximum arrow outer diameter of 9.3mm or size 23. With all that in mind, would one be better off with standard diameter arrows (6.5mm or .0245 inches), instead of large one usually seen in IBO/ASA and micro ones usually seen in outdoor target events? Thank you in advance.

I'm trying to stay in the 450 to 480 range. Hoping to go to TAC this year. So now I'm weighing out some gold tip hunter xt because Sirius orion's are to expensive to lose and so are the air strike.
