I'm welding using flux core wire that requires no welding gas. It is not as clean as mig with gas, but it gets the job done.
The clamp won't win any beauty awards, but the design is solid and lean - it's VERY light, but can deliver a lot of force. It's also super fast to adjust.

John - I really appreciate all of your videos following Mathias's visit. You analyzed your design weaknesses and set out to correct them. Your open and honest approach speaks highly to your character.

Thanks for releasing this version with the volume below 11.
Dear Master, thanks for your teaching 🙂
i like how the video is put together along with the backing track
this video gets a thumbs up from me just cause all the welding shots let me know just how filthy my screen really is. cheers, john...
Nice to see you taking a challenge, while I love wood I like metal. Nice job!
This type of video is WAY better than the other one

I agree. I love watching these kinds of projects. Any time I get to weld with my powerimig is a good day. I just wish I had more spare time to do it.
Wishing you very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy 2017
Really interesting. It'll be good to see how it performs. Keep the videos coming. Have a Merry Christmas.🎅🎄
I really like your editing style in these videos
Very cool design John, love it!
John your the man! God bless you and Merry Christmas
I love your videos! I like this recent surge in improved clamp videos that may have been brought on by your recent guest haha. May I ask what music you used in the background of this video? Thanks, and have a merry Christmas!
03:08 that smoke ring though.
Perfect work.
Cool Build John! Built like a Mac Truck! Merry Christmas! Have A Super Week!.....Gus
I've been working in production wood shops for the past 10 years so i know standard woodworking safety rules. I am interested in metal fabrication is there some where i could research the safety standards on that subject?
I like this. I will make a few of these myself with my powerarc welder.
hola john. es mucha la diferencia económica entre una comprada y una fabricada?
Good one, using studbolt to hold moving jaw, cool man.
Love You video was really entertaining thanks for the inspiration
Have you always put the THX intro sound in your title cards and I've just never realised before?
Instead of the separate nuts could you use a threaded turnbuckle for better thread engagement ? It might make the design a little strong and easier to make
Bien trabajo John !!!! Feliz Navidad
is it cost efficient to do your own clamps this way than buying them?
How am I supposed to watch both videos at the same time?
Why is flux core stronger?
THE CLAMPS!!!
Nice! Lots of thread on thread action to prevent jaw slippage.
Merry christmas
How you endure the weld-spatter on your bare hands is a mystery. Those blops *HURT!* Ouch!
I can't say i have actively searched for it but I bet you could make a great welding tutorial. How does it work? You put a clamp on the table and then you have some kind of device that feeds a wire and .. does it melt the parts together or is the thread that fills the gap? You had some nice closeups in this video, that's why i ask :) You're also very good at explaining. Thanks for video!

both pieces and the wire melts together creating a weld
Matthias is going down!!
You should use a grinder on those welds xD
Brought to you by the THX sound.

Actually, it just a sound that sounds like the THX sound :D
Way cool.

Thanks Greg! I may make a bigger version with better steel and better welds when it warms up. Right now, even three days later, my shop still smells of cutting disk and hot metal :D

Would you ever make a "long reach" version like those gclamps? Oh btw, cool video. Thumbs up. Well done, chap.
I get a feeling Matthias is going to be building a clamp soon too...
If your using gasless flux core wire you need to change polarity change ground to positive and and gun to negative welds will have no splatter and welds alot better make sure your welder can support polarity change
отлично! Спасибо!
How about a metal clamp disguised inside a wooden shell... Matthias won't know what hit him! :-)
Nice 🤓👍🏼
Nice.
Matthias has been really quite lately. I bet hes in his shop working on a Clamp / Hydraulic Press.

His new clamp will use a 30 ton house jack. He'll be ready for that next clamp comparison video. haha

Класс ! отлично ! браво !

Haa! I saw that too!
Now my eyes are slit: DDD
This competition is going too far. We risk to lose John to the metal side. Tell Matthias to not try a titanium clamp.
I think Matthias startet kind of a war here ^^

whos matias?
Well it is true, that you can never have too many clamps.
Anywhere on the adjacent steel you don't want bb's stuck.
Looks like MakeItExtreme video for me :D
Friends! Your videos are impressive. Make excellent tools, furniture, machines. Stable like. and I subscribe to your channels. Electrons, your machines are excellent. But it's expensive for me. Propose a friends with one another. Thank You.
Great job!! This is Fabricio, I'm from Brazil and few days ago I did some clamps with a no gas mig welder too. If you are interested to see fotos about this work send me your email or another way to send you.
Kaynak benim gözümü aldı. Yarıda bıraktım. Videoyu
Very nice project! #PaoloBradaDIY
You should be welding outside because this flux core wire smoke is really bad for you
Oh John, I think I almost got blind by watching all those spatter, please buy some gas :)
franksclamp!!! kkkkkkkkkkkkkk
Like
Great video, buuuuuut.... Why don't you wear gloves? and use the nozzle on the mig gun, you're gonna get the diffuser and contact tip messed up with a lot of splatter. It's your skin and equipment, but cover all the bases when making great videos.
very bad choice of background music
Use a real Mig weld, that without gas is not good.
