My problem is the video is more about making tools than the actual spoon. Was the video good yes but he should have titled it something different. This was not something anyone can do. This method requires a lot of tools not everyone has

Too pass the time in the field when I was a Drill Sergeant, I would widdle random pieces of wood I found in the woods of glorious Fort Benning, GA. I damn near lost not one, but two fingers in numerous attempts to carve a spoon. I stayed bloodies & bandaged most of my two years on the trail. I still have a scar, and I proudly display the final spoon I widdled, right next to my hat.

@@laternevercame it's not a hack, he's showing an easier way to make this specific tool. normally you'd need to do a LOT more to make this. a dremel is not going to give you the same results as a carving tool, and will wind up wearing down your dremel tip, whereas this can be resharpened whenever

Once when my mother didn't had money, I made spoons from wood and bowls so we can eat from them. Had always struggle to made them because I was just a child, my first attempts were always a disaster but after I put some time in it. I good really in it. Nice to see how easy it is actually is. I have sorted out all my wrenches and have 3 different types of wrenches in all the common sizes hanging and i have about 30 old ones that i never use again. So this is actually a good idea to make something out of them instead of never use them again :)

Most people I know would not have the hand strength and dexterity to do what this guy is doing. Cutting a piece of metal or using those dremel tools is actually really hard for 90% of people.

You can give a man a spoon, or he can buy hundreds of dollars worth of tools, make a knife out of a $10 wrench and then spend two hours carving a spoon out of a piece of firewood.

Gives me new perspective of the phrase, “I’ll carve your heart out with a spoon”.

This guy is just showing his way to make a tool , everybody can do it , everybody got different conditions . If you have a power tool or a hand tool , you need to find your way to do it . I don’t get the negativity of some comment . Nice video by the way .

A couple years ago. I made a bushcraft knife from a machete. Works great love it benefit of making your own stuff becomes exactly how you want it in the end

Super idea , great tools for sculpt the woods !

For those complaining about the amount of tools used, you could achieve the same result with a hacksaw, a couple files, some sandpaper and a lot of extra time and patience. The rotary tool would definitely speed things up and an older one with a couple attachments wouldn’t cost much at all. Be resourceful!

@Andrew Keech The only thing accurate is the noise. The mess would be the same as the material removed is the same. A knife alone versus power tools is definitely not faster. A knife alone vs power tools will not achieve a better finish.

This is the second time watching this video because it is a brilliant idea. I went to the flea market todayand bought a few old rusty wrenches to make some for fellow carvers.

I love this. Perfect tool, for almost free!

sad.. with lock down..still lazy people out here. im not into wood working.. but im am into making stuff. wood rings bone jewellery, antler, copper jewellery. beads.. cutlery jewellery.. called living life, other than watching ur cell phone all day.. try it.

A dremel and disk sander are pretty achievable for anyone..... the rest of the tools where more about convenience than necessity.

Form follows function, and you did an excellent job! I was disappointed to see the snarky comments, and sad to imagine that they were born without imagination...there are many work-arounds for the equipment you used.

Brilliant idea & great demonstration of how to really make it with readily available rotary tools. Your sharpening technique seems to be very effective, I just made a similar attempt yesterday with my tools, but have yet to get that super sharp edge. (Updated).

I was gonna comment and point out the fact he wasn't wearing gloves,but I noticed halfway through the video a bandage appeared. 😂

It's always fun to make tools, when you use them it's just that extra bit of special.

what u do is pretty remarkable

I got a snap on carving kit now .. Dad didnt need them wrenches.

Maybe I'm not just anyone but I do have the tools to do this although some are manual like files and hack saws I do have a dremel to speed up the work. Really cool idea for old spanners

Brilliant, thank you for sharing this. I love that beautiful old handle you put on it too. I'll start looking for wrenches and handles now. I don't have all the heavy duty workshop tools, but I think it could all be done with a dremel and a vise. I'll just have to buy those. I could see this being a set of 3 in different sizes.
