Love the combination of purpleheart and the oak. Nice work and a beautiful tool. Those little details that scratch stock is used for can really set a piece of work apart. Take care and have a great week James.
So much fun watching you work Mister Wright.
Beautiful, James! Fantastic work! 😃 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Great job James. Very cool.
I hope you enjoyed doing 1:50 as much as I did watching it 😍
“500 year old oak and purpleheart. This is gonna be fun.” My first thought was ‘He’s a glutton for punishment!’ 😂 James, you certainly don’t shy away from a challenge! How many times did you stop to sharpen during this project? That beautiful tool will last many generations! Thanks for sharing.

congrats on first!. and to answer the question I sharpened the plane once, but there was not much of that work needed.
I have to admit, I wasn't sure where we were going with this. I'm glad I stayed through the end of the video. Great tool, and great to watch you make it. In Australia we don't have purple heart, so just a regular hardwood (Eucalypt) would do it? Won't look as pretty though.

Sure. Just about any wood and Australia would work perfectly. Just going to be more difficult to work with but you know that lol
Vry good
thank you

How do you keep your tools looking like new?

I generally don't. Most are anteque that have been restored.
What type of oil is in the jar?

Home made Boiled Linseed Oil.
Forgive me if I missed it but is that just a stanley 45 cutter he is using? Edit: lol I heard the second channel explanation now, but still, does anyone know?

No Stanley 45 cutter wouldn't work quite right here. You usually make the specific profile you want out of an old saw. The video on Thursday will cover it in more detail. But here's an old video that I have on how to make them. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fmWIpcZpaN22Y7g.html

@@WoodByWright I see, and will watch both... Thanks!
Did you make that from scratch? I would try but I just can't cope!😎
why did you file the sides of the body rather than use a spoke shave?

With how small the radius is none of my spokeshaves would fit.
