Making a Powerful PWM DC Motor Speed Controller 12v 10A || Concept of Freewheeling Diode

In this video I have designed a PWM motor speed controller for DC motors. The circuit is based on NE555 timer IC. The IC is used in Astable Multivibrator configuration to generate a PWM signal whose duty cycle will be controlled by a potentiometer. Moreover, this video also demonstrate the concept of a freewheeling diode and how to use it.

Perfect timing that I found this video, what a godsend! Many thanks!
You have saved me so much frustration! I am so glad that I didn't try making my pwm circuit before I saw your video.
This is great! Thanks for showing how you problem solved this. :)
Good vid. The actual live oscilloscope view showed us definitively what's going on too.
Subbed and bell on! Love you explanations and your dry humor! Also, nice job soldering. :)
Yes I learned what I needed to know, thanks. It really helped that you didn't edit out your failure, instead you showed how you diagnosed it then solved it. I have found that my failures are often my best teachers.better yet you're failure was a exalent teacher.
Thats cool how the back the board solered all the joins together. Neat and tindy didnt know could do that. Also that is can be a light dimmer, now im going to see if i can find a kit to dim my lights as well as slow my dc gear oil pump motor.
Your soldering skill is amazing.
You explain it well mate good job🖒
Nice and very good teacher 👍
Thank you for the video, I have one question though, how can I upgrade the circuit to accommodate a 500 watt spindle?
Creative video, thanks :)
Nice soldering my friend
well done
Excellent!!! You are a professional, but I am wondering why you didn't use a IC base on GP pcb so that you can easily replace the IC, whenever required.

Whoo I am glad I found your video. I am trying to make one too to control a power mosfet irlb3034 for a vape device and 100nf ceramic cap to produce a lower frequency. The problem is, it doesn't change the power. It always is on 100% power. Do you have any idea as to why?
What can be installed as a replacement transistor for IRFZ44N ?? I thinking about the IRF630 ! What do you think???
I have a brushless motor and I wanted to make a controller like yours but the motor I have works with sensors. You have a Tutorial where you can make a 48v 40A controller
Can the speed controller regulator controller be shorted if directly connect to car battery 12v...
Thank you
Hi sir which software you used for pcb designe and simulation????
hi can we control current so we can have torque control
..do I correctly deduct, that I would need to use a diode for any DC motor? And what type of amperage rating? Thank you, for this learning!
@Aatik's lab awesome video! Definitely useful for me and answered a lot of questions. A noob question though. If I'd want to get 24V 10A to a DC motor (instead of 12V 10A), what would I have to change (apart from the power source of course)? Which components I'd have to change in order not to fry them with higher voltage? I guess the schematic would be the same, I'd just need to place tougher components?

Sir please can you answer me a simple dc motor can move by using servo tester and MOSFET?
I have a transformer of 12 volts which only outputs max 500 milliamps may be due to it's high internal resistance. But i want to run a motor at 5 volts with 1amp .is there anything i can do?
Can you make the same circuit with forward reverse for 775 motor
very interesting and helpful, but I want to see the circuit diagram. thank you
Hi. I can replace the pot wtih hall effect throttle ??
Does it lower amperage consumption?
can i connect 24vc dc motor with ATMEGA16 using IRF520 mosfet
Good
I construct this schematic, it works and It is very simple. But i have an idea - i want to replaces the potentiometer with thermo resistor / 10k omh / and the speed will be based on temperature. But is it possible to make the motor to run aprox. 40% / idle, not depending on temperature/ and the thermo resistor to control the speed of motor in range 40-100%…. Is it possible to change the schematic to work like this?
thanks
Hello Sir. How many volts and how many Rpm is the last Dc motor you used? Thank you
Can anyone tell how mosfets terminals are connected with 555 timer ic.
Hi. i want to make this pwm control for a 3.7v low ampere 10mm x 6 mm mini dc motor.can i replace this mosfet with a smd type bc547 transistor?
Do you sell the breadboard for this controller?
👍
Personally i use only two-transistor multivibrators to drive the Mosfet since it has two outputs.
What would I have to do, in order to get 15kHz, instead of just 10kHz ??? What would I have to do, in order to get 20v output, instead of just 12V (Amps are irrelevant, 0,1A output would be enough, instead of 10A as in your case) ??? Must I simply change the source for a 20V-source??? All I need to do, is to drive an igbt, instead of your mosfet (needs 20V, but needs nearly no current at all, to be driven). Otherwise, well done video, and thanks for any answer !!!

It's posible than using 4n25 or 4n35 optocouple and fga25n120 igbt to control high voltage rating motor Optocouple use for isolation between power and control circuit Also use for switching
Do more videos please
Sir can I use 100k potentiometer?
what's the simulation software `?
Better way is to use a proper havle H-bridge between the 555 timer circuit and the motor, 555 timer can only sink and source a limit amount of current.
Nice video, can i use 50k pot instead of 10k?

I have found a picture of a generator using a 556 ic dual timer.
SOS please help. Hello friends. I designed a program with my Arduino to run a 5 to 9v dc motor forward, stops and backwards for a few seconds. Then stops and waits for sensor again. The code was put into an IC ...the AtTiny85 to shrink the project. Here are the component's...9vdc battery, .i used a PIR sensor to detect motion as input. Im using a LM7805 (100 nf electrolytic cap at input and 0.1 nf ceramic cap at output) regulator to reduce voltage to supply IC with 5vdc so it can go into program. The outputs of the program are .. light up an LED ( with a 200 omhs resistor) and start the motor by giving signal to small DX1616 Motor Driver. Tge mot Also , during this operation, the system can be shut if a Microswitch is pressed. MY PROBLEM: the code, and this system works perfectly on breadboard. But when i solder it on card...it works for a few minutes and the motor starts spinning only fwd non stop AND ITS LIKE THE SYSTEM DOES NOT GO INTO PROGRAM FROM THE ATTINY85 or not enough current to start it. Everything (sensor, driver, motor) takes power from the 9v battery , only the AtTiny85 is supplied with regulated 5vdc but that input to the regulator also comes from 9v battery. Could my capacitors be the problem? Is 100 nf too much at that input and dissipates all the energy?? Should i also separate the grounds of the circuit. The 9vdc circuit and the AtTiny85 circuit SHARE the same grounds. Thank you
It is running the motor but not controlling the speed of motor
Use flyback diode
It only works in small motors. Not works with 12v 9amp motor. Transistor damaging always

i call it damping diode.
1.) You should never solder an IC directly into a PCB... use a socket. 2.) The free-wheeling diode is part of every motor control schematic online so never say "I KNOW my circuit is correct so it must be a bad component 3 times in a row". Do more research first.
