Making a planted ranchu goldfish tank
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Massive thanks to Dustin’s Fish tanks for providing the plants for this video ( dustinsfishtanks.com ) I will be adding some of the plants into pots with rocks to hold them in place and I will post some short videos of that process when I do that. Thanks for watching and don’t forget to order a tubby Tobey plushy! lukesgoldies.com

Hey Luke! I’ve had a ton of planted aquariums(some with ranchus in them) and had a couple tips for you. Amazon swords grow great with ranchus as the ranchus won’t eat them at all. Anubis’s and cryptocorynes work great as well. However you should attach the Anubis’s to some rocks as they will develop a better root system when attached to rocks or driftwood. Also you should probably add some fertilizers in there. Most plants require some sort of fertilizer, aquarium soil, root tabs, co2(although co2 is expensive and a bit overkill. Also don’t know how well the goldfish will take the co2)

Solid advice! I wouldnt dose ferts or co2 cause of the goldfish waste should be enough to grow these less demanding plants.

The banana plants that I have, I tied them to suction cups and stick to the glass and they do great

I prefer rocks to glue on to them since they don't rot 😊 driftwood can rot and make your water look dirty😬 ( depends on what kind of driftwood tho)

@@parzival2797 Tannins coming from wood isnt rot tho, and is incredibly beneficial!
The goldfish all look so happy at the end! Glad they’re enjoying the new plants
Hello Luke, I'm peter. I really appreciate your efforts you make to take care of your goldfish and other cute creatures. I really love your work❤❤❤❤❤❤ I may not have money to appreciate you because I'm just a young boy. But I really wanted to tell you how I felt.
I recommend going and watching some aquarium co-op videos on plants, it helped me a lot when I was first starting with plants.
What's up fish tank people! So happy for this collab. Dustin is an OG!🐠🌱
Quicksilver may be the most underrated of Luke's fish. The coloring is stupendous
Kirby is growing up! This was a nice video 😊 I can’t wait for that egg vlog update! ❤ 🥚
❤ I really enjoyed these fish, and the tank with plants, so peaceful watching the chubby tubbies swimming around. Thanks for posting, made my day. 😊
Hi Luke. As a fish/turtle owner my best experience with plants is to place plants in one section of the tank and leave an open area for them. This way they can hide or swim freely
Hi luke. From my experience, my nuggets messed up almost ALL the plants i put in my tank. Even the really tough ones too fibrous for them to eat. Also, the fibers got stuck in my pumps propeller and it messed it up. If you are OC about the tank's clarity or hate floating stuff, you might need to do more maintenace. Liquid fertilizers, co2 diffuser... the list goes on and on. I even bought porous pots, filled it up with river stones then planted my plant, they still uprooted it. To keep it short, i removed all my plants after 3mos of trying. I gave up. Now, it's just pothos and lucky bamboo on my sump for nitrates.

I also tried for a couple months before giving up. Had 2 goldies in a fully planted/hardscaped tank. The plants just would not thrive because they kept being pecked at/uprooted and the tank was so hard to maintain. I honestly don't recommend going full scape/planted for goldish unless you really know what you're doing, they're so messy. My golden solution was just a layer of substrate, a LOT of pothos (and some monstera) in the tank, and sticking giant anubias plants inbetween the roots of the pothos. It looks stunning, the plants are thriving since they have their roots settled in the substrate. All I gotta do is water changes, I don't even substrate vac because all the dirty stuff goes straight to the plants up top. I also grow floaters in my guppy tank, every couple days I scoop some into the goldie tank for an unlimited supply of snacks :) Works so well like this
Hey Luke, the plant that you put on the top (not the floater plant) is called water sprite. It is super great for keeping with goldfish because in my experiences it does not require a grow light, it is very strong and when the goldfish eat it, it will grow back very quickly. The only thing I would suggest is that if you plant it, put rocks under it because it searches for its fertilizer (the poop) under rocks and if you have sand the poop will stay on the top and it will not be easy to make it grow.
Nothing was more of a pleasant surprise than to see this show up today! Really cool to see you branching out into planted tanks. Aquascaping vidoes are the best
I love the look of plants in the tanks!
Quick tip: You can put organic topsoil inside the pots and layer more than an inch of sand on top in order to keeps the dirt from clouding the water. Be sure to plant stem plants inside the pots.
A good plant you could use is hornwort! It can be planted or left to float, they have no roots. They might get eaten but they’re easy to grow
I’ve been waiting for him to upload, also the tanks looks so amazing. 👍
After a stressful day all I need is this video ❤ that's so soothing to watch this water babies to move around
Really nice video. Loved the plants tanks and fish . Can't wait to see more videos luke
you might like the easy planters from aquarium co-op!!! you can easily just put potted plants in there and the roots can grow out of the bottom
Ores looks amazing and the Red Caps are looking good too! So glad you saved them!
I love these videos and let my 9-month-old watch a few. She loved watching all the fish.
The goldfish are now ten times cuter than before😊
Hey Luke! Quick word of advice. I would take those plants out of the baskets in the tanks with substrate. Its kind of a pain to get all the material off of the roots but its well worth it in the long run for the health of the plants. You also might look into getting some aquasoil or even look into capping potting soil with sand and other substrates. Best of luck, its looking great so far! 👍🏻
It's honestly so satisfying to just watch the plants fall into the tank
hi luke, one tip from a plant nerd: the anubias rhisome will root if it's roots are cramped into substrate, i'd recommend chunky gravel with a lot of water space in between for the roots to breath.
So many people say it can’t be done; after all goldfish eat plants, they dig, they blunder about, they pull up plants, and they like cooler water whereas many aquatic plants are tropical. But goldfish really benefit from having live plants in their tanks, they are just as deserving of a nicely planted set-up as their tropical counterparts. Goldfish enjoy the sensory experience of playing around with plants, swimming through them, hiding in them and of course snacking on them. It makes a more natural habitat for them and encourages natural behaviours.
"617th video of me requesting luke to name a chunky goldie Mr.Blaze" It must be the most fiery goldfish🔥🔥
My Tubby Tobey plushy just got here and told me he can't wait for Luke to name a goldfish Goo Goo Ga Ga
Love the plants… makes the tank look tropical
I’m a huge fan you inspired me to start my own channel keep up the good work!
The fluffy plant, water sprite, is one of my favorites! I started with two of them, and eventually filled up a 90, 55, 29, and gave away a bucket full on craigslist. I'm starting a tank which will eventually house goldfish, it's going to have anubias, African water fern, and moss. Plus all the duckweed from my other tanks, lol
The arrangement of the aquarium is really cool, the Ranchu goldfish is also good... best regards from goldfish cultivators in Indonesia
Luke, honestly the those dorsal fin ranchus are really really cute.
Great video Luke these fish are very cute 😊
Tubby Toby isn’t all cute. He rules his land with an iron fist
The 2 minutes at the end was amazing thank you
With the anubias, keep the ryzome out of the gravel and you get quite the ways with anubias, i have different varieties of anubias, javafern and elodea with my goldfish. Maybe valisneria would be nice for your giant tanks and perhaps amazon bleheri, looks kinda similar to the huge anubias species, but might grow faster
@Luke's Goldies I just want to say, I don't even have fish but I love your channel! Also, I AM a plant person and I have a suggestion. I've noticed that you have some pothos on the top of your tank sometimes and if you want to spruce things up a bit, you should get an N'joy pothos! They are beautiful. There are actually a few different kinds of pothos but the N'joy is great because it still has a lot of green with white verigation. Also, pothos in general love having their roots trimmed which seems perfect with the fish snacking. Lol
Watching an aquarium is the most peaceful thing to do.
Love planted goldfish tanks

Same, they are beautiful. I get why you keep tanks bare when breeding, but a bit of color from some plants makes the tanks look so much better. And it helps clean the water too.
My Tubby Tobey plushy is soooooooooo soft that I actually bought more and use them as a pillow
Luke! Thanks to you I no longer fat shame my goldfish. Setups lookin good dude 👌 😎
Bro names every fish and never fails saying the wrong name, that is a sign of a true fish keeping legend
Will Margaret ever have babies? She has always been my favorite of your fish❤. Your planted tanks look great I hope they do well for you. Thank you so much for sharing and best wishes always.
That was fun to watch! Cute fishies lol
Good work on the plushies my kid loves it became his new favorite
Dont have to know too much to have a tank; I think youre doing well having a good time, and your fish are enjoying it.
The water looks so beautiful and clear 😻 EDIT: Ahaha I love the dainty piano music as the plant bombs sail away toward the water puppies
This man is the true definition of the gentle giant
Beautiful video 👍

Dustinsfishtanks needs to send this man some dirt packs, and have a phone call helping him plant these suckers properly! Some will do fine without, but all of these plants will do better with some proper substrate and the fish waste alone
Very pretty ranchus.
I want to get in to fish keeping after I see your videos❤
Love to see the lively tanks anyway I also the fish keeper knew that the goldfish will mess up with the plants ❤
Everybody, watch until the end! Luke needs money! If you ask why, Luke needs money
i never knew gold fish can be this cute
I like how the background music fits well with the plant dropping. Seems more elegant, like a ballerina dancing. Is it just me thinking that? 😂😂😂
Hi Luke, i'm from Spain and i love your videos :). I have an aquarium with a betta and plants, you should put the plants out of the pot, some plants need a substratum to live or something to hold onto, make sure that they have a good level of potassium! it's very important for they to live and another ones need CO2, i recommend to you to search on google the species of the plants to make sure what do you need for each one. You have a beautiful business and fishes, as i said i really like your videos ❤
The baby goldfish have grown a lot
MD Fish Tanks has great planted ranchu goldfish tank, you can get inspirations from his scapes.
Love your vids
request... can you record an 1hr video of the aquarium with your prize fish, be nice to show a full-size goldfish aquarium on the TV screen.. :-)
I love seeing planted tanks like!! Btw you should get ram cichlids and they are very fun
The best thing to do in the weekend is just, sit, open KZread, and watch how Luke makes planted tanks for his little goldfish buddies 2:47 I didn't know Venom had a brother. Good to know the little guy isn't alone
Try a setup with an undergravel filter! They're great for growing plants as it sucks the water past the roots, and it houses a lot of denitrifying bacteria so less water changes.
Hi I got your plushie and it’s coming in next week I’m excited for it I love your videos:D
You could also add some pond soil to the pots that you put the plants in for extra nutrients
Nice plants
Please don't do that to the bananas they float they will send out roots that will ground itself in the substrate... They need to breathe. Love all the plants!
honestly, Tuby Toby is the one with the plants 😌☝️

Very nice 😊
tank goes from boring and empty to green and lush! im sure the fish will love it
the bannanna looking plants are called bananna plants and if you burry them in the substrate they will die. let them float on top
I Cant wait to see more new babies
the floating plant is pearl weed and as the name suggests it grows like a weed you will most likly need to trim it daily (it grows better planted but it does grow fine floating just grows slower)
Just got done with my plants and turned on KZread to see this
That music was music to my ears lol thank you
Many people are using Fluval stratum for growing indoor plants so I guess if you use that in your tanks the plants will love it!
I find my guys love to eat floating plants especially duckweed. It's almost as good as peas. When they've got bite sized plants they leave my big ones alone.
I like your videos luke
Wow so cool❤
Sooooo adorbs 🥺 I want em all
time to teach luke how to grow plants!
Top quality fish
The best and simple aquarium setup for goldfish is big tank with good filter, there is no need to apply those plants, sand etc..
Pot the plants before putting water so you can put CO2 and the tank will be much cleaner
The fish look like a lot like tourists on their first trip to Disneyland.
Look at them swim theyre so happy hehe
Hornwort is a great aquatic plant, it grows like a weed and my goldfish haven't eaten it. Would recommend.
Omg you are there😊👍mister alright
Hi Luke the plants you have well the swords, crypts, anubias and banana lily will survive goldfish eating (as we know goldfish are munchers 😊)...looks like you have some pennyworth, duckweed and wisteria (personally from experience i have observed wisteria and duckweed can clog filters & can be messy - the smaller leaves do it)..well goldfish eat any plants that they can fit in their mouth and nibble at other bigger leaves..but the former plants i mention are more likely to survive and grow better than the latter..you'll need to give the plants optimal conditions to grow in - like light, CO2, plenty of nitrates which they'll get from the nitrogen cycle and some plant food (grow capsules, root tabs or there are powders too that fertilize - you can directly add to the tank- this does not affect water quality), you can have a bare plated aquarium or one with your substrate and add aquatic soil. Aquatic plant keeping is very similar to fish keeping you'll develop a likeness to it in time, at first a few plants die - a few make it but you'll get used to it all eventually as you are brilliant with fish!!! 🙂
Look way different but I love it
Love from India Luke
Video three of asking Luke to name a goldfish “Big Chungus” Edit: I just checked, this actually video four
You should grow some floaters, mainly as goldfish food. They really help with swim bladder disease
