Plus, a lot of her clothes can work well for period pieces! I’ve been in stuff like the Crucible and Fiddler on the Roof, and clothes that can look “historically ambiguous,” where they could easily fit a multitude of time periods, are really useful to theater companies.

If you don’t have a specific person in mind already for the dresses you don’t think you’ll wear again, there are charities that give dresses people don’t have a use for anymore to people as prom or wedding dresses. This dress would make an incredible prom dress

There's also a lot of organizations that take clothes for transgender teens! Upon transitioning, I donated all of my feminine formal clothing, including a couple vintage dresses that I wish I still had to turn into other garments. That's on me tho

And I’m sure local high school theater departments would welcome any donation of costumes for their productions. I used to sew (until my sewing machine and I broke up because we couldn’t play together nicely) and did sewing for the high school I worked at during my sewing days for their musicals. And despite the flaws I blatantly saw and the use of hot glue where needed, they loved them! (Not in anyway boasting of my abilities, remember I don’t talk to my sewing machines anymore...😒) And to finish off, you are amazing, so don’t let anyone tell you differently! Hold your head high and keep doing the great job you’re doing!

I can change monthly layouts in the middle of the month, make lists for daaaays, randomly add whatever bullshit I want literally wherever, and as long as it goes on my index we’re gravy baby. I’ve been reading so much recently about how creating for the sole objective of pleasing others leads to creative death. I’m always so happy watching your videos! At least from my perspective I envy and admire your ability to just create and not worry overmuch about issues until it’s finished and you can look back and see how you would improve. I LIVE for that neck/headpiece!

Your channel is as much chatting with friends than making an original garment. Making the dress is almost an excuse to give us an honest talk about having a KZread channel. I like your candor and authentic communication. That makes you endearing and that is why you have so many subscribers that enjoy your humor and frank talk. We know you work hard at your art. You delight us and make us forget that we are stuck at home too with the pandemic, but YOU have the courage to make something instead of sitting in front on the TV. I have friends in the 501st/Rebel Legion here in Canada. Honestly, their costumes are super screen accurate but once you go through all that work and get in, you’ll have a new extended family. "waiting for serotonin" made me almost choke on my coffee, 12/10 content.

pausing just to say that the intro to "the ladies" was perfect and hilarious.

After learning to sew 35 years ago, I learned many moons ago always pin all your pieces to your fabric before cutting because chances are very good you'll run short (some actually end up wider than your fabric too, especially if you have to alter your pattern pieces at all). Never completely rely on pattern yardage either as it's always best to buy at least a half yard to a yard more than called for. I've been there lol. You're getting so much better at your sewing!! Keep it up.

I'd just like to tell you your "If I can do it, you can do it" when you talked about sewing was literally what kickstarted my whole "buying fabric to practice sewing" hobby that literally put off an anxious breakdown I had last year. I'd have fallen apart a lot sooner if it weren't for you kind of accidentally cheering me up on starting on something I had no prior experience with. I literally had only ever sewn buttons. Not even buttonholes; just buttons. And now I have at least 2 pieces of clothing I did myself.

I'm an old lady and we're required to give unsolicited life advice... You, my dear, are freaking rocking it out the park. You have been rocking it out the park all year. Use your own yardstick to measure your success. No one else's yardsticks matter.

When she said “it’s a little prom dress rn” I kinda lost it because the dress she made was exactly what I want for my prom and our theme is under the stars lmao. It is literally perfect!

I think we all need to be more vocally supportive of each other from now on. So many people like what you do but don’t say it, and negative comments are shown to have way more of an effect than positive ones. Impostor syndrome is a bitch and I think showing each other our appreciation is a great way to make people feel less alone.

Rachel!! I woke up this morning to a mean comment someone left on my Instagram reel, and it didn’t make me feel very good! For whatever reason, I clicked on this video from two years ago and have been watching it all morning. I am SO glad I did!! Your pep talk has lifted me up and shot happiness straight into my heart. Thank you!!!

Rachel you should consider donating your costumes to high-school, Jr high, drama clubs or any after school programs in your area that support performing arts. They're always struggling to get money for costumes and the students can alter the sizes themselves. I was a costume designer in my drama club and I learned so much.

If you ever question the quality of your cosplays, just remember, the ark of the covenant prop they used in Indiana Jones and Raiders of the lost Ark was made with hot glue ;)

Potato with a purpose is my favorite quote now. Jamming out to music while sewing is always a must do. That's the only thing that keeps me going when I'm sewing/crafting 😂
