Making a Morel Spawn Kit Bed to Grow Morel Mushrooms at Home

Grow your own morel mushrooms right in your yard! In this video, I'm building a morel spawn patch using a spore kit in hopes of having my very own morel garden next spring. I'll show you exactly how I created my substrate and prepared my mushroom patch with the spawn kit.

I loved your humor on this video!!! I live in the northern lower peninsula of Michigan and was walking next to my garage and there was a morel mushroom right against the garage. I walked all around and didn't find any more in that area. I don't care for mushrooms so I kept it in the refrigerator for 2 days and then threw it out. I have to admit, I have never tried morels.

I have successfully grown mushrooms in my backyard, but there is a big factor that I can tell you about Huge, huge breakthrough that I’ve had Unexperienced go around with that variable, including another variable that I just came to realize the Chinese are using in their successful Morel cultivation

Axe body spray "Twist" is the scent . It works really well for ticks. Or just self with baby powder right out of the shower. I know both are effective for ticks

Axe maybe changed the name of the Twist spray it was a citrus scent that changed its scent after 4 hours and lasts for 8 hours. The change of the scent and being citrus is a description of in case the name is different. I have not seen it in 7 years or so. Works much better than any bug spray or off or deep woods or repel none work as good as the axe. The dark temptation scent will not work for nothing. Only Twist scent

Be sure to collect and use rainwater or filtered water because it doesn't contain chlorine. Pouring unfiltered tap water (or water from your garden hose) over the bed could kill the spores.

@@GreatLakesPrepping awesome. Years ago on my first attempt at utilizing the slurry method, i worked my but off spreading spores like Johny spreads apple seeds. Unfortunately I ignorantly used tap water later to discover that by having done so i had killed my spores along with my chances of success. So i figured that was great practice lol. Question how late in the year can you find morels where you live?

@@ted4730 They say it's between late April and mid-June (in Michigan anyway). It's probably similar for PA. Still a pretty big window of time. It seems to correlate to when the temps are ideal, and how dry/wet the spring is. They say when the temps dip into freezing at night, but into the 50s or 60s during the day is often ideal. And also if it's not a super dry spring. It's been pretty darn wet here so far.
