Making a "lean to" roof for a walkway - Part 2
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This video follows the second part of my project to make a lean to roof over a walkway at the side of my house. It has now turned the walkway into a useful, sheltered space.
Part 2 shows how I installed the polycarbonate roof panels and completed the lead flashing. It also shows the addition of the uPVC fascia panels, guttering and drainpipes.
I am a KZread DIYer and am no expert but have built a very solid roof. If this video has helped you with a similar project or given you the confidence to give it a try then please let me know in the comments. I also welcome constructive criticism or advice on how things can be done better.
If you have enjoyed the video please give me a like with a thumbs up and subscribe.
Thanks for watching

Yes a very good job ! Others should always remember that it is not good practice to discharge ‘ your ‘ rainwater , onto next door neighbours land . Also to remember that any guttering that is fitted should technically not ‘ hang ‘ into your neighbours airspace etc . Just a couple of legal points there , that I know professionally, create neighbour ‘ wars ‘ and disputes future down the line so to speak ! 🇬🇧
So happy you put guttering on, saves your neighbours a soaking!
Incredibly helpful, thank you. It is a far from easy one-man job and managing your own filming at the same time is remarkable - well done
It's handy to have a good relationship with your neighbours. Mine's a complete dickhead so I'd need a slightly different approach to the job. But thanks, these are the best videos I've seen on the subject

If you're neighbour's are dickheads leave the guttering off so they get soaked every time they walk past lol
Well done on a very difficult job, filming and working with one pair of hands! Your film is a tribute to your patience and determination to finish with a great record of the work involved. Very helpful to me, as I'm planning a similar job soon. Thanks, for the effort. Very informative.
Excellent work - planning the exact same thing, so will be referring back to this!!
Really helpful video. Your narration and filming (especially whilst working) was excellent. This is on my list to do down the side of my house in 2020. Thank you!
I am looking at doing something similar in the next couple of months and found these videos very helpful. Thanks for posting.
What a great job. I've been looking for a video that shows me how to grind out the mortar on my brick house to put in flashing. Thank you so much.
Thanks very much, I 've always wanted to know how to do the flashing and you explained it very well. Many thanks again
Some great tips thank you! Will be using them to do my own lean to this autumn.
Great job, this has helped me to figure out how to do a similar job at my house, so thanks!

Well done 👏
Lovely job, uncompromised by having to film it one handed too. Fraid my missus will be up the ladder helping with mine, I'm not so generous haha.
Brill, thank you.
Thank you!
Thanks very much i learned a lot regarding the angles for the rafters. i would like to make a similar walkway cover but as mine would be under a bedroom window i was wondering if the sound of rain was to loud might there be a quieter roofing material it doesn't need to be transparent
Wow what a great job, I wish you were my neighbour so I could ask you for a hand I need my exactly same walking way done, but I believe mine be easier, cos I have 2 little storage so Wont need those post at all.
Excellent 👌 the best 🎉
brilliant
Brilliant
Thanks for sharing this. I have used it as the basis for mine. Used flashing tape instead of lead which is much easier, cheaper and effective
DIY is the best way out off depression I wish I could do this great job but I get depressed thinking about it lol.
Me n my neighbours wall about same as yours but were gonna do one between us straight over wall to wall 🤩🤩🤩
You look to have done a nice job, it just looks a little higher than it needed to be
Nice one
Thank You
What a great end result! The cladding adds a great finish. I'm hoping that when you start to get some well deserved ad revenue that you can buy a GoPro as your 1-handed moments for our benefit made me nervous for you - stay safe!! Good job and good man!

Cracking job me old China.
Happy Days!!
Great job demonstration i have a question what if the walkway is on triangle chape wide by the gate and get narrow to the back garden can I make a semilar polycarbonate roof?
Excellent video. Although it was difficult understanding you at times, because your words weren't always clear. You tend to muffle your words. I just kept rewinding the video. Again, your video was excellent, and the instructions were exciting, step by step. That what we beginner's need. Thanks again for the help.
Hi Very Nice job. What was the total build cost please? Also if you put a scaffold board on it could you walk on it to paint the wall if you had to? Many thanks
Top job thanks for sharing! All I would say is that 2m is the legal height of a boundary fence, if I was building one I would have the roof finish at the fence height and also ensure the gutter is inside the boundary. But great work and most helpful, I am thinking of doing same.

Yes agree this is what I am planning to do different. The height to be above my Fence and guttering to be with the boundaries you don't want to upset your neighbours.
@richardbrighton1686

The wall plate cannot exceed 2 5 m if within 2 metres of a boundary. Stick to that and other rules and it becomes an exempt building. So technically the edge of the building could be 2.5 metres high if it was flat roofed.
Clearly not a professional in any of the used trades, and have in some situations made the job more difficult than necessary, however, the patience care and dedication you have shown definitely shows that skill isn’t everything and that we Dont always need professionals who lack the respect to other people’s property who just want a quick ‘in and out’ , quick buck job leaving a mess. Well done mate.
Really helpful video - thanks very much. Are you willing to give us a ball park price for the materials you used?
Exelente tutorial, I'm planning on doing something similar, hopping wife lend a helping hand, Congratulations!

Sub d and liked. Good naration. Great work. Invest in a tripod. Respect.
Brilliant and informative - thank you. (As I'm now planning a similar job, seeing this and seeing the materials you're using has answered a lot of questions for me). Which company did you go to for the roof panels and plastic cladding/facias?
nice job ten out of ten liked and sub

Consider the tile spacer idea absolutely stolen ! Great vid. I am doing my veranda roof in the morning.
Hope the next door neighbour is happy about it as you have gone over the boundary into the neighbours
great videos - mind sharing your total build costs please?
Hi mate how wide are ur panels looks tricky to lean over to put trims on
How do you now change your fence panels? Are they blocked vertically?
Hi well done how much did all cost
Quality!!! Has this impacted the natural daylight or is the roof not that intrusive? I want to do the same but we have a kitchen window which it would be covering too...

Hello, the panels have not effected the amount of light at all. Regards
Are you available to work in Leicester, love to have you do my side entrance.... Also, I'd want a slight arch version of this to go with my arch front...
