Making a "Lady" version of Billy! (from Hocus Pocus)

Ойын-сауық

HAPPY OCTOBERRRR WOOO!!!
To kick off this halloweenie season, I wanted to tackle a project I've been wanting to do for years: Billy from Hocus Pocus! And to make it a little more unique I thought it would be fun to do a little genderbendin' and make her a Lady Billy hehehe
I had SO much fun with this one, which included some historic sewing, dESTROYING, painting, and creature makeup. Can't get more "me" than that, bahahha.
ANYWHO I hope you enjoy!!! Love you all!!! Stay creepy!!

Going to show my age a bit, but in the first Pirates of the Caribbean's special features, they talked about how they weathered all the costumes. Protip: If you revisit this costume in the future, consider using a waxed hemp or other coated craft-jewelry-making twine for the lip stitches. They won't it wick up moisture nearly so much if at all, and as a bonus it's a more lip-stitching-ly appropriate material. So you can enjoy your snacks while resting assured that, were it an actual case of suitably punishing a disloyal lover, the stitching would have held up beautifully over time. 😂🤬👻 Also, that costume is just the *chef's kiss* perfect way to start the holiday season. One thing I've found helps with weathering fabrics is anything with serated blades. Also, razors (like a four-bladed one for shaving the body). Using pavement was a great idea, that is something my costuming instructors have always used in roughing up fabrics. Go even further and find a big jagged rock to scrape at it, or the edge of a cement block and rub it over taut like you're smoothing out a dollar Edited to add: CHEESE GRATER IS PERFECTLY SMART, NICE!!

This is AMAZING! Omg possibly one of your best ever!! I am SO THRILLED FOR MAKSOWEEN!! On a personal note, my Grandma was named Wilberta, affectionately known as Grandma Bill or Billy. It’s been almost one year to the day since we lost her and to see a “female Billy” is more therapeutic than I can express. Your art matters and touches hearts. Thank you for the laughs and I maybe teared up too, but in a good way. ❤

I just love you puddin' pop! Halloween has always been my fav. I make my own costumes as well, have for years. 62 yrs old now and have never grown up. One of my favs was my Went with the wind costume from Carol Burnett. Bad planning on the curtain rod, it was pretty lame by the time my shift (bartender) was over, didn't factor in the width of the walk in cooler door. lol

In 1970 all new jeans looked new. I drove 6 miles on dirt/gravel/paved roads to and from school. So, using a length of rope, I tied my jeans to my bumper so the entire garment was on the ground. Having arrived at school, I popped the jeans into the trunk of my 1966 mustang. Dragged them home later and voila, they looked pretty worn! Fun times. :)

And you flippin' NAILED IT = *chef's kiss* It looks INCREDIBLE, I hope you wear it all the rest of the month... just for funsies!! P.S. I hope you are feeling better, sending healing juju stat! Little tip for distressing fabric, I've seen the folks on the Wicked Makers channel use a wire brush (like the kind you would clean a grill with). It always looks really good in the end.

The downside to using a wire brush is the loose bristles that fall out. Those are thinner than needles and no one needs that.

When I was in school we did fabric distressing (I was a theatre production major lol) and our favourite things to use were cheese graters and wire brushes to get the holes in the fabric looking worn enough and then we'd go in with super heavy grit sandpaper and just attack it lol cover it in dirt, paint and bleach and you've got one weathered garment lol looks amazing Rachel! You did an amazing job as always!

After chopping into it with some scissors you can also use an old pillow case, or something similar and put your garment inside with some different sized rocks, and 'toss' it around a bit for some wear and tear. For future reference

Hello Ms. Maksy. My wife & I love your content. Been meaning to leave a comment but for whatever reason but hadn't. Seeing this particular video....Halloween!!! We're both haunters & love distressing & weathering costumes, sets & props. One thing we use for costume distressing is "The Shredder". A multi-bit hole saw where we glue all the sizes into one hand held beast. We use a solid board, lay the garment on the board & go to town with the shredder. Another real good tool is a belt sander (table top not a hand held). Keep up the great work and stay Spooky.

Absolutely fabulous. It's always fun to watch learn your weathering techniques and admire your comfy and cozy clothes (Floor Troll and Gamgee potatoe farm are *chef's kiss*). Regarding the fraying for the skirt - I recently learned that a wire brush does wonders at snagging fibers to pull them apart! Might be helpful for your next destroyed creation instead of roughing it with a sanding block.
