Why split it into quarters then glue them back together? Wouldn't it be stronger if it was turned from a solid piece of wood?

@@watermelonsavage2914 That would be my question also. The only reason I could see, would be the color-pattern. I mean glue was a thing back then, artistry also - so it might be historical accurate that weapons would have been built like this...

Brother...this was one of my favorite builds to date! As a woodworker, it killed me to see that live edge slab get cut up...when it broke, I died a little inside. It was indeed a beautiful piece. R.I.Pieces!

Yeah same. I saw the stress riser and was waiting for it lol. Attempt no 2 should be with bulletwood. If that breaks, then imma call him Hulk

This was a cool project. Too bad you missed the can during the testing. I liked how you used the pinstripe tape to line up the pins. That’s was a great way to make them consistent. Thanks for sharing the knowledge. 🙂

This is a gorgeous piece of work! I really like the two-tone look and those antiqued brass tacks. Looks great together! (Edit, just saw the testing bit -- HOLY JEEZ NOOOO 😭) With all these Deadpool bits and gags I have to imagine that later on down the line, when someone decides to make a wiki dedicated to this channel, the "Lore" section is going to be _deeply_ perplexing and hilarious.

My favorite Samurai weapon. At the intersection of elegance and brutality you have the kanabō.
First off you did awesome work, but I would have probably made it from a solid piece of wood rather than laminate it, it might have made it a little more stronger

Laminate would be stronger as i can alternate the grain, was human error and would have broken no matter the build. Thank you

That was a beautiful bit of wood turning and prep. It looked magnificent. Truth be told though it was the cabbage that took it out of it and hitting the table was the "gota que colmo el vaso .....'

Maquatl! Or a maccana sword as it's some times called would be awesome to see made. It's like a cricket bat with obsidian teeth all along the outside, though just doing it with metal would still look fantastic. Great video, Kanabo rarely get a look in unless you really like old Japanese anime.

I have something in the works
That was beautiful. I'd love to see you drill both sides and put a metal rod into the center to make a new version that would be stronger than the old version. Another thought would be to remove the studs and reshape the thick end a bit. You could then hollow out the thick end into a scabbard. You could take the handle end and turn it into a full tang short sword.

That SUCKS! That was a nice build. For some reason it reminds me of the Baseball Furies gang in the Warriors movie from 1979. If you haven't seen the Warriors movie grab a beer and watch it. You'd enjoy it.

That was a beautiful piece. Right up there with the historical trench club replica. Seeing it break was a bummer but it made for good video. It might be good to make another one later on for a redemption video.

@@ebonyroundass no, i hit the sharp edge on a solid steel table it would happen no matter what
And my Saturday is complete....... but my heart broke when it failed. The sheer amount of precision that went into that. Random thought, reinforced steel core to it? Rout a channel before the final glue up and put some rebar in the middle with epoxy? I dunno, just a thought. Still amazing work!!

Thanks mate, steel core would still have same outcome, it’s just one of those things and a core would make the wood thinner as well

If you want to fix it, you could drill down the middle of both pieces and run a threaded rod in there. Nuts on the ends and glue to lock the rod in place.

Try again with a pipe core, then you can bolt through it for support and weight it for comfort. I love these blunt weapon builds, so dope.

No matter what it would have failed on that strike it’s just an unlucky shot, steel core would amplify the shock and with reduced wood thickness it would have definitely broken it, thanks for watching

Would weaken the wood, it broke and was purely accidental.

Osage and oak? II like hand work (no power tools). I made a round mallet out of osage 10+ years ago. Maybe 3.5" in diameter at the fattest and about 15" long. It developed one hairline crack when I moved it from lathe to bench to apply BLO. It has dents from chisel butts, but it will most likely last longer than me.

No it doesn’t, alternating the grain gives more strength like scaffolding to the wood, it was an unfortunate accident and nothing to do with construction
Great video. Kinda sucked when the handle snapped, but I'm sure we will see it again with threaded rod or elevator cable. Taking it up a post apocalyptic notch
