    There's a method that they use for prosthetics that would probably work for this that would be wayyyyy cheaper. You slowly heat lexan/plexiglass in the oven and then you drape it over the shape once it's pliable. I'm definitely going to try it, because I think it would work very similarly to vacuum forming for basically free.

    As long as your printed mold can withstand the temps That’s what I was thinking. Only I’m thinking of using a clear plastic bottle

  • @dgcrago

    @dgcrago

    @@chadwickbikerboy09 that would probably work really well too! You'd definitely need something that could withstand the heat. I was thinking maybe ABS. Either that or I'd need something made for me. Although I might be able to pick up some silicone molds for cheap.

    @@dgcrago my original thought was to just print the eyes. Then either use uv resin to smooth, or just sanding smooth and possibly painting just to get a gloss surface, then casting in silicone and then pouring the eyes out of tinted epoxy and then just polishing. But I’m not 100% sure if that will work out as well as I think

    Solution to the vacuum former, make a box using 2 2'x2' plywood hobby sheets and some trim or dim.-lumber and drill 1/8" to 1/4" holes into the top sheet. Attach a vacuum by drilling a hole in the side either big enough to fit your vac. or to fit a vac. attachment. Then cut a PET or PLA bottle up and form into sheets for forming. Once you need to use the former, heat up your plastic with a hair dryer, grill, torch, etc. and quickly press the plastic over the casting form and former base.

    I've had this video on loop the last 4 days while doing homework because it's relaxing and never gets boring, great work Frank. I'm currently making a Scarlet Spider helmet using the big eye helmet from Do3D, but I'm still trying to come up with ideas on how to make the lenses since the eye slots are so big and rounded.

    For the lenses maybe clear worbla could be an option too. but as far as tinting them your best bet would have been to dye the plastic with idye poly then chrome the inside. You can use spazstix chrome out of a rattle can and/or alclad-107 out of an air brush. I do like how yours turned out though!

Ps the reason your paints bubble. The difference is oil based and latex and water when you mix the different bases it bubbles. Stick with one or the other. Again great content thank you so much. I'm planning on printing the "lenses" from the files and using my heat gun to form the actual lenses. Just need to figure out the tinting part, might have to do what you did or at least something similar.
