Kaiser with a bit of help from Jonny B has a go at building a new board for wargaming on. General purpose grass board for use in a wide range of game systems and periods, intended for use with lay on terrain. Speed and utility are the key here as well as keeping costs down to a minimum.

    Nice one mate board looks really good and its also great that you mention mistakes and criticisms of how you've done it as it will help people to see where they can do it differently or things to avoid. Great job mate 😁👍

    I think it is probably more important to share the mistakes. There are loads of videos out there where everything works... what did I bring to the conversation... things to avoid!

    Looks nice! Definitely nicer experience than a mat. Definitely not something you can do super quickly because of the drying times. Geek gaming scenics has a lot of great videos on terrain. And luke is a stickler for speed so I feel like he has materials and methods that cuts the drying time down.

    @@ModellingforAdvantage, we have some mats from Deep Cut Studio, they are great, but the same as you Hills do not match, so I took the chance on our desert mat and done them with painting fleece. So I can buildt them as big as I wish.

    I made a similar board this summer. I used particle board plywood on the bottom and I adhered 1.5 inch insulation foam on top using hard as nails. No warping. Looks good Kaiser!

    Yep, I imagine that does address the warping problem - lesson learned for next time. I was hoping this way would be harder wearing and the frame would prevent bowing.

    Glad it was helpful! I do wonder if people tend to glue down foam boards on top to prevent the warping - it definitely warped a bit, although battoning the underside would have possibly done the same thing.

    I don't really have space where I do my hobbying to get lights and camera so I don't often cover Hobby stuff. It is something I am hoping to be able to do more of next year.

    Its really neat to hear that you reffered to terrain tutor for your technique. Again, it is a lovely board, and (being a new viewer) having seen your set-up for the Normandy game, its really neat to see how simple the construction was. (Relatively at least...😁)

    You don't need to talk to me about hobby related injurys kaiser! Sliced my finger open building terrain and did serious nerve damage to my little finger. Good advice on the apron. I may get myself a trendy fashion item myself! Lol

    we managed to get a bit of gaming in before we hit Christmas, but we are being super careful about meeting in person at the moment - essentially not doing it - because in UK currently we are in a serious spike of the virus.

    That's the plan! Not everything immediately. I think I will be starting with any scenery with bespoke scenery requirements, like in TANKS you have hills and forests of specific sizes, same for Song of Ice and Fire.

    @@ModellingforAdvantage to be honest at the moment its a flat surface for the Tss tiles. I would like to eventually change the 6*4 to 8*4 and make it a textured board. But as usual anytime is used painting minis 😄
