Making a game board insert … Chipboard card holder
I’m using 50 point chipboard and Guerrilla Wood Glue to make this insert.

An improvement would be instead of cutting the finger holes in the side once it's assembled, cutting them prior to assembly, and rounding out the bottom of the slots as it will help prevent tearing that can happen at the 90 degree corners of the chipboard. I would use a 1" radius arch punch.

I love it, I'm going to do something of the same, but fitting cards with sleeves. I don't want to spent 40$-100$ to buy some inserts online, this is a great solution.

Keeping it simple does cut down the crafting time. It really does depend on what you actually need at the time. I've done simple builds and more complicated builds before. Sometimes I wish I had done a simple build instead of a complicated build and never finished it, other times I wish I had gone more complicated. I've not done much crafting in quite a while due to either my kids being little at the time, or my health. I have started crafting small items again. Currently hand sewing a dice bag. ( Sewing machine is busted. ) It's a simple construction but I am enjoying how relaxing it is just taking my time with it. I've a tuckbox I need to build at some point soon, as I'm going to get the Icarus Cards (pdf) printed this year hopefully.

Yes. This simple method combined with the box extension really make the insert viable for the complete game

Very cool, great info as im planning on making some stuff like that. I jusr have to find a source i can physically go to to get the chipboard. We used to have a Dick Blick store in town. There is still one in Indy, i think, but there are a couple of art supply stores there. Im not sure if Hobby Lobby or JoAnns carry that heavy of chipboard product.

What type of paint do you use? I used craft level acrylic paint and brushed it on and it sucks up the paint like water! It also made the chipboard soft and pliable where it was stiff before (50 pt). Grrrrrr

That's because acrylic paint is not like water, it literally is half water.
