    This is my new favourite channel. As a beginner, I find most of the woodworking accounts, although interesting, are using materials and tools I'll never be able to afford. And, even if I could, I'd still want to work with reclaimed/found materials. Also, crisps.

    You should consider getting a kreg pocket hole jig. I used mine when making my hallway table and it saved so much time when attaching the legs and stretchers together. Nice table though. Love the contrasting colours in the table top. I'm always on the look out for timber as well. My best find this week was from a skip outside a pub. Two solid wood table tops. A round one and a square one.

    I have a cheap pocket hole jog (not a kreg) but I don't really like how they look so never seem to use it. Thanks though! Nice to hear you've salvaged some useful bits!

    Good job man, its interesting to see you sand the danish oil while still wet, i've never seen that before. Think i'll give that a try on my next project. Nice to see more british wood workers on youtube who have small workshops(sheds) like me too.

  • @RagnBoneBrown

    @RagnBoneBrown

    8 жыл бұрын

    Yeah I read about that technique apparently the oil and sanding creates a slurry which fills the wood pores for a smoother finish.... Seems to work and will be doing it again

    Normally, people use grain filler for that... especially for plane sawn oak or other open pore species. You might give it a try. If you find Danish oil doesn't give the protection you'd like, check out post-cat lacs and/or conversion varnish.

    The book provides clear illustrations kzread.infoUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO diagrams that cover many of the essential topics. The projects at the end of the book are valuable for enhancing your skills and creating your own furniture. A digital platform linked to the book that could offer the plans for other woodworking projects with the cut sheets would have been a nice addition, but overall, the book is excellent.

    Rag'n'Bone's reply below is correct - the term is also used in the US. It's a specially type of mortise, also a subset of the term dado. Any of those terms would be technically correct, although rabbet is probably the most common in the US.

    Predrill when using screws, if your sizes are right (drill pilot hole, then pre drill shank hole) you won't split - use coated decking screws #8 size. Read up on finish sanding and finish types, general finish work, you have a lot to learn in that area. Not a bad project, came out just fine in the end. Good Luck.
