My son asked for a desk for his birthday and he left it up to me to design it. I looked at heaps of desks on Google images for some inspiration and this is what I came up with. Hope you like it!

Hello, great work, but I cannot find the free plans for this desk?!!
The best unspoken tip in this video is the bamboo skewer measuring trick. It begins at 17:00 so cool. Love this desk brother

little tecniques like that one, the simple wood clamps at 2:05 and the little pieces of ply to hold the charger at 22:15 are so cool to me. Probably effective solutions he came up with experience.

You've done a stellar job. I found my desk downstairs in this apartment block. Someone had dumped it and put a note on it "Free". I took it in to my flat and made a bunch of modifications to it to make it suit my needs. I wish it was a bit wider but otherwise, it does the job.
This guy is such a nice guy. I just went and checked his plans. Most of them are free. I truly believe he does this because he enjoys sharing with hobby. Great work sir Love from Sri Lanka
A lovely piece of furniture. Reminiscent of the 60s designs.

If you don't have a router, use a coping saw. If you don't have a table saw, a circular saw can do the same thing - you can clamp a board down as a guide fence of necessary. Hell, you can use a hand saw, but it's going to be a workout. A round gouge can get you the hole for the charger. A forstner bit and router do make it easier, but they're not necessary. Just takes knowing how to work with what you have, or what you can get.

Doesn’t need to be perfect. Cuts a perfect circle with a router in dense plywood...

You're not fooling me Mr."I'm no expert"! That desk is awesome, a fantastic job!
The angled surface edge looks really great! Plywood layers typically aren't very attractive, but you've managed to make them a highlight!! Well Done.

One thing I've come to over the years is that no one can see what you had in your mind when you started something, they only know what you came up with in the end. So it can't be judged by what you WANTED, it can only be judged by what it IS. And most of the time, that is more than enough, I find.

And it doesn’t have to be flawless to be perfect either. Another distinct that our ancestors knew and appreciated but we tend to forget about is that between pure beauty and dependent beauty. If something is fit for its purpose, it’s beautiful (dependent beauty), even if it’s not particularly aesthetically pleasing (pure beauty).
Beautiful, Pask. He'll have that a long long time.

Loooove form ply for the quality vs cost. Awesome for shop furniture. Nice use here in real furniture 👍🏻

Desk haha sorry
For some reason I had it in my head that a tapering jig *needs* a runner underneath, but I can see now that it really just needs the fence at the right spot. That should make my life easier next time I have to create a quick one like you did here. Thanks!
Using dowels to measure the drawer bottom size - genius. Best thing I've seen in a LONG time.
Was without heat and power for 5 days... so just now getting to your video... I needed some happy time... thank you
Very nice as usual. Bradley is a lucky lad. Hope he enjoys it.
Happy Birthday Bradley! Your dad did a great job making your desk. The design is so clean and elegant. He built it well so you may be able to hand it down to your children.
God bless you!! I really like your out of the box ideas.
Lucky son!🙃🙃🙃🤩 Good work, I would pay for that desk
Where I was when this video was released in Feb 2021!!?? Awesome desk - Great Job!
The skewers to measure the drawer bottoms is a great idea! I’m building some now and this will make my life easier! Love your videos!!
Am cosure your son has the best Dad, big up for your care
The Australian version of a foureyes desk. haha. One I feel is slightly more achievable... Because I can attain those materials, at least. haha. Thanks for sharing mate!
Very Nice. Your son will be proud of that desk.
Simple but very neat.👍👍👍
I wish we had form plywood here in Kentucky - USA, were I live, and not even on list of suppliers that I know about. Your son will have a that desk for years of enjoyment. Good job. Thanks for sharing
Gorgeous! I particularly love the way the bevel on the underside turned out even if it's not very visible in the finished desk. So glad your son likes it! There's just something special about things someone you love makes for you 😊
Ngl, if I got a desk from my dad for bday, I'd be happy. I'd be happy to get anything but a desk is a decent gift if you really need it.
That turned out a treat, it did.
You are so talented! I love how you make your own jigs and walls as you need them. So smart! Your kids are super lucky to have such a Master Craftsman as their Dad.
Well done! 👍 Love the deceptively simple retro-look of desk. Your remarkable skill as well as your love for your son are beautifully depicted in this video. Your son is blessed to have such a incredibly talented and loving father. ❤️
Very nicely done Neil! Your son is so lucky to have a Dad like you to make him a desk! 👍👍
Skewer trick is most excellent. I've been using a variation of that for years. I made a slide rule like tool that operates the same way, just is a dedicated tool.
Easily the best channel on KZread. Every single video is entertaining.
I smiled the whole way through this. Love the piece and love that you did that for your son. What a great dad to have!

Looks very neat and smart to include a wireless charger. You could scratch a lightening bolt into the paint of the form ply to show where the charger is

Thanks Ben! I actually thought about doing that. I also thought about setting four dowels at the corners of where the phone sits and flush them off. :)
Great work Neil.
Good choice for the top. It lasts a very long time. I have a couple of bench tops made from the more industrial grade one and they are not treated with care, and they've faired well under the abuse.

Sometimes a surprise source of that kind of thing is an old treadmill, usually gotten for free. The floors on those can be REALLY nice stuff. I got one that had a really nice piece of MDF coated 3/4" ply. I'm still not sure what to do with it, other than a glue table. It would be perfect, NOTHING sticks to that stuff, and it was free. Treadmills are a great source of all kinds of thing, and you look like a hero when you remove people's reminder of their failure and give them floor space back.

@@willmorrison1022 Yup. The coating is a plastic type (if memory serves me right) that's akin to teflon. And it has to be, if you think back to its intended use, i mean, concrete is one of the stickiest materials we can make, that's not directly glue. I've tools, that i had to dip in acid, to get the metal sheen back to them, after they were touched by concrete. So yeah, if you want a surface to work on, you cannot do better, short of spending the money on a teflon slab, which is infinitely more costly.
Liked the hot melt to apply the drawer fronts, 45 yrs in the trade and have never seen it. Plan on using it in the future. Nice job
Well done! Should serve him well for many years.
Great work. My favourite KZread channel for a reason.
I've enjoyed a ton of your videos. There's something about your voice that says, "No big deal - you can do this!"

Great job. Simple and elegant. Thanks for sharing that.
Happy birthday son! He will need a chair as well... Great job, as usual. Thanks to you
Such a pleasure seeing you at work. Awesome video, great lad. You are very cool Mr. Pask!
The clean lines are wonderful. Thanks
I really appreciate the detail you put into your work, especially wiping off the excess glue with a damp rag to make clean-up and sanding easier. Small step, but it's really pleasing too look at being done as it shows the care you take throughout the entire building process.
As usual Neil a good clean piece.
Beautiful piece. Thanks for sharing the build

Amazing work as usual... I know when I make things for my children I always go the extra mile to make every little detail as perfect as I can for them. I felt like I could see that in this video too.

Good table!!! Perfect work!!!
This looks amazing - what a present! My four year old son and I love watching your videos - please don’t take this the wrong way but he finds your presentation very calming and it helps him go to sleep some nights... Might want to round over the bottom exposed edges/corner of the drawer section. I might be overly cautious but I reckon unless your son is super careful that might bite him at some point.
Beautifully done Pask.

"Dad, can it have a built-in PC like Linus does?" Pask: "No" "But daaad, you have like almost a million subscribers" Pask: "You can have a wireless charger" :all but nails the charger to the table: ----- I love how basic a holding mechanism this turned out to be, some bent plywood stuck in two screws! Of all ways xD PS: I wrote that just before the final shots! Beautiful desk! And also, no matter what he says, great gift to your son! Very inspiring tbh!
I love how the desk turned out! Using form ply was such a cool idea and I really like the simple, yet elegant design! Well done 👍
Maybe some chalk or even soap stone would work better for marking in the form ply. Great vid btw! Love your work!
